In its pursuit to grow the Hollywoodbets Dolphins’ brand and visibility around the province, the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union has decided to host cricket festivals in Eston, just outside Pietermaritzburg, and Port Shepstone in the coming weeks.
CEO of KZN Cricket, Heinrich Strydom, said that this is an attempt to intensively introduce the Dolphins franchise to other parts of the province.
“We are trying to grow the brand, even in the outskirts of Durban, because at the moment, there is a belief that the Dolphins are a Durban cricket team whereas they are ought to be known as a KwaZulu-Natal cricket team merely based in Durban,” Strydom mentioned.
“The Dolphins actually represents the entire province and with these two festivals we want to make it known that we are for everyone.
“This initiative will be a push to reach out to all eleven districts across the province over the course of the next few seasons, with the starting point being Port Shepstone and Eston.”
The Pietermaritzburg festival will take place from 8 to 9 June 2018 at Eston Cricket Ground in the Midlands with KFC Mini Cricket Coaching by KZN Inland and Hollywoodbets Dolphins players taking place on the first day at 14h00.
On Saturday, the Dolphins will take on the Midlands Invitation XI made up of club cricketers in a T20 match.
Amongst Dolphins players that will participate there will be Morne van Wyk, Khaya Zondo, Prenelen Subrayen, Okuhle Cele, Lwandiswa Zuma, Mthokosizi Shezi, SJ Erwee, Darren du Pavillon and Rabian Engelbrecht – joined by coach, Grant Morgan and his assistant, Imraan Khan.
The following weekend from 15 to 16 June, will see the Dolphins lads heading down to Port Shepstone.
The players will battle it out in another T20 format match against Southern Natal Cricket Union Invitation XI at PSCC. This match will be preceded by a KFC Mini Cricket coaching set to take place at 09h00 in the morning on Saturday.
This actioned packed Saturday will then be followed by an auction dinner presided over by Pat Symcox, a former Proteas and Dolphins batsman and premier spinner.
