The first round of the 2019 IRB Junior Championship will take place on Tuesday the 4th of June. Darry Worthington previews all the opening round action.
The rugby action is coming thick and fast this June with the Under 20 Championship set to add to an already action-packed fixtures list. The first round of the tournament will get underway this Tuesday with the highlight of the first day's action seeing multiple champions England take on a vastly improved Irish outfit.

South Africa will be looking to make a statement when they take on a Scottish side that struggled at the Under 20 Six Nations this year. The 'Baby Boks' had a retched build-up to this tournament suffering a heavy away defeat to England and a narrow home loss to Argentina.
Scotland have also struggled for results in 2019 with the men in blue finishing the 2019 Junior Six Nations in last place with only one victory which was a 27-20 home win over the Welsh.
Verdict: South Africa (-19.5) 17/20
Despite their recent woes, South Africa should have no trouble seeing off a very limited Scottish side. My money is on the 'Baby Boks' winning this one by 15 points or more.

An impressive Australian side will be looking to make a fast start to their campaign when they take on a spirited Italian outfit this Tuesday. The Junior Wallabies enjoyed a marvellous Oceania Under 20 Championship beating New Zealand, Japan and Fiji on their way to claiming first place in the tournament. they have a great squad this year and could be a real threat for the title.
Italy haven't been as impressive in 2019 but they did manage to finish this year's Junior Six Nations in fifth place. They did only register one win in that tournament, however, beating cellar-dwellers Scotland 22-32.
Verdict: Australia (-18.5) 17/20
I caught a few of the Oceania highlights and Australia did look the real deal. I can see them opening their tournament with a win in excess of 15 points.

The hosts open up their campaign with a clash against the Welsh. The Argentines have steadily improved over the years and could well be a real contender on home soil. The Welsh will offer a great a decent enough test first up with the young Dragons a solid if not spectacular outfit.

I'm expecting big things from the Argentines this year. I can see them opening their campaign but beating Wales by more than 10 points.

New Zealand will be looking to make a solid start to their campaign when they take on an ever-improving Georgian outfit. The Baby Blacks had a rather poor build-up to the tournament having failed to defend their Oceania Championship with a 24-0 loss to Australia ensuring they would have to settle for second place.
Georgia could well give the New Zealanders a real run for their money here as they have a very experienced squad and some fantastic young players including fly-half Tedo Abzhandadze who has already turned out for the senior national side.
Verdict: Georgia (+ 32.5) 17/20
I quite fancy the Georgians to keep this game tight. They have a handy squad while this vintage of New Zealanders seems a far cry from previous incarnations.

Reigning champions France take on a Fiji side who return to the Under 20's top tier after spending last year in the second division. The French were nothing short of sensational last year but will be hard-pressed to reclaim their crown as they have lost a number of talented players who are now ineligible to play because of their age.
The French enjoyed a decent Junior Six Nations campaign finishing as runners-up to the Irish. Fiji's 2019 season has been as impressive thus far with the Islanders suffering defeats to Australia and New Zealand before defeating Japan.
Verdict: France (-25.5) 17/20
While I don't expect the French to produce the same sort of rugby they did last season, they should have no troubles beating a limited Fijian outfit by more than 20 points.

The clash of the opening round will see Junior Six Nations champions Ireland take on England. The Irish enjoyed a marvellous Six Nations campaign that saw them beat England 35-27 on the way to claiming the title.
The English had a far more subdued Six Nations, finishing the tournament in third place with three wins from five games, but do head into the tournament in solid touch having beaten South Africa 35-8.
Verdict: Ireland (+8.5) 17/20)
While I'm fully expecting the English to claim a win here, I think they will be run close by a solid Irish outfit.
