We preview week 36 of the 2017/18 English Premier League season which is set to get underway on Saturday 28 April.
We’re into the final stages of the Premier League, and what a joy ride it has been! Manchester City played their first match after being crowned champions of England when they put five past a lacklustre Swansea side. Elsewhere, second-spot chasing Liverpool were held 2-2 by a spirited West Brom side, who are fighting for their lives at the bottom end of the table.
Chelsea, Southampton, Manchester United and Tottenham return to Premier League action, after their semi-final ties at Wembley last weekend. There’s just four rounds of matches to look forward to, while it will also mark the end of an era for Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.
Saturday 28 April
Liverpool 3/10
Draw 47/10
Stoke City 15/2
Liverpool missed the chance to reduce the deficit to one point behind Manchester United, when they paid the price for switching off against West Brom, letting a two-goal lead slip at the Hawthorns. Stoke City failed to build on from their one-goal lead against Burnley, who dented the Potters’ survival hopes with a second half equalizer. Paul Lambert has managed just one win in 12 matches since he’s taking over from the club.
You simply cannot go to Anfield in form like that and not get hurt. Back the Reds on the (-1) Handicap at 8/10.
Burnley 12/10
Draw 43/20
Brighton 26/10
Burnley continued to push for a spot in next season’s UEFA Europa League when they salvaged a 1-1 draw against Stoke City, courtesy of a scrappy Ashley Barnes goal. That was the Englishman’s sixth goal in his eighth league match. Brighton were one of the few teams to have the weekend off, with their opponents scheduled for a FA Cup semi-final showdown. The Seagulls are winless in five games and have lost their last three away encounters.
Burnley are well overpriced at 12/10 – get on before the bookmakers change their mind.
Crystal Palace 21/20
Draw 51/20
Leicester City 26/10
Crystal Palace leapfrogged both Huddersfield and West Ham United when they walked away from Vicarage Road with a point to their name. Roy Hodgson’s men sit six points above the drop zone, but have played a game more than their closest rivals. Leicester City have taken a slight dip in form, riding a three-match winless streak. You can, however, argue the fact that they faced opposition who have much more to fight for than them. Both teams come off the back of goalless draws, but that is very unheard of when they come up against each other.
Take Both Teams to Score here at 13/20.
Huddersfield 16/10
Draw 2/1
Everton 39/20
Huddersfield return to Premier League action with a massive task ahead when they host eighth-placed Everton. David Wagner’s men dropped down to 16th spot, but are still six points clear of the relegation zone. After what started out as a disappointing season for the Toffees, Sam Allardyce’s men now sit well clear in the top half of the table. Both teams set themselves up very defensively, and for that reason,
I’m backing Under 2.5 Goals here at 5/10.
Newcastle 8/10
Draw 26/10
West Brom 36/10
Newcastle’s run of four straight wins ended on Monday night when they fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Everton. After fighting a relegation battle in the first half of the season, the Magpies now find themselves seated comfortably in the top half of the table. West Brom have taken an upturn in form since the appointment of Darren Moore. Their last away game came at Old Trafford, where they left with all three points in a 1-0 win.
I’m backing the visitors here on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 19/20.
Southampton 15/20
Draw 29/10
Bournemouth 37/10
Southampton continue their fight for survival when they host Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon. The Saints have endured an upturn in form playing-wise, but have failed to get the results needed to avoid the drop. The Cherries skipped Premier League action last weekend, and will arrive at St. Mary’s freshly prepared, hoping to end their run of two consecutive defeats.
You get the feeling that Mark Hughes will slowly get the best out of this Southampton team, back them here at 15/20.
Swansea 11/2
Draw 3/1
Chelsea 11/20
Swansea will look to pick themselves up after that heavy 5-0 defeat at the home of the champions last weekend. The Swans looked flat, showed no fight, and seemed like they were happy to end the season off on 33 points. Chelsea booked another date with Wembley when they humbled Southampton to a 2-0 scoreline in the semi-final of the FA Cup. In the league, the Blues won twice before that, looking to stretch their winning run to four matches across all competitions. If the same Swansea from last weekend show up, then bookmakers should just suspend the betting on Chelsea.
As you can tell, the away win is tipped here at 11/20.
Sunday 29 April
West Ham 13/2
Draw 4/1
Manchester City 4/10
West Ham face the daunting task of inviting Manchester City for a game of football at the London Stadium this Sunday. The Hammers were hammered last time out at the Emirates Stadium, losing 4-1 to Arsenal. City played brilliantly against Swansea, completing over 1000 passes in the match, while also managing to score five in between. Pep Guardiola is known for resting plenty of his key players once his team has the league wrapped up, but with so many records in touching distance of breaking, the Spanish tactician will likely field another strong line-up.
Get on the 2017/18 champions here at 4/10!
Manchester United 9/20
Draw 7/2
Arsenal 6/1
Full preview here.
Monday 30 April
Tottenham 1/6
Draw 13/2
Watford 16/1
After suffering yet another cup defeat, Tottenham’s trophy drought will carry on into next season. For now, though, holding on to their UEFA Champions League spot is top priority. They’ve lost their last three encounters at Wembley, going down to Juventus and both Manchester giants. This time around, they host a Watford side who are winless in their last six league matches. The Hornets seem safe on 38 points and have taken their foot off the gas in recent weeks.
Spurs are tipped on the Half-time/Full-time double at 5/10.
TREBLE tipped at 11/2
Liverpool (-1) Handicap 8/10
Burnley Win 12/10
Crystal Palace vs Leicester BTTS 13/20
