We preview Tuesday's IPL clash which will see the Mumbai Indians and the Sunrisers Hyderabad lock horns at the Wankhede.
The Mumbai Indians will be desperate to secure their second win of what has been a so far disastrous campaign when they host the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede.
On the other hand, the visitors will look to rediscover the form which saw them win their first three games. Two subsequent losses at the hands of the Kings XI and the Super Kings have seen them tumble from first to fourth on the standings.

The Mumbai Indians were downed by a superb knock from IPL rookie, Krishnappa Gowtham. His incredible 11-ball 30 helped the Rajasthan Royals to a three-wicket win. Once again it was the batting that let the reigning champions down with only Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan making meaningful contributions.
Both Evin Lewis and Rohit Sharma faced the ignominy of first ball ducks. Lewis chased a wide half-volley without moving his feet, a thick inside edge resulted in the ball careening into the stumps. Rohit’s dismissal was worse – a nudge into the covers and an early call of yes saw the Mumbai skipper charge down the wicket without ever really putting the handbrake down. Ajinkya Rahane’s underarm throw was accurate enough with Sharma short of his ground.
These are the sort of errors that will cost the Indians going forward in this tournament. As it stands, they’ve only won one match and have relied on the performances of individuals – rather than collective efforts – far too much this season.
Kieron Pollard for one desperately needs a score in this tournament. The Pandya brothers, too, have been far too inconsistent with the bat in the middle and lower order while Mitchell McClenaghan has yet to rediscover the form which saw him become such an integral part of the playing XI last season.
Looking ahead, there will be massive pressure on the top four to fire this Tuesday. They’ll do well to see off Bhuvneshwar Kumar before tucking into the likes of Billy Stanlake and Rashid Khan who both struggled with the ball last time out.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
So where has it all gone wrong for the Sunrisers following their run of three consecutive wins at the start of the tournament? Well for one, Shikhar Dhawan’s continued absence certainly doesn’t help. The Indian opener suffered a nasty blow to the elbow in the match against the Kings XI and was forced to retire hurt. He apparently hasn’t trained since and missed out on Sunday’s defeat too.
Tom Moody will hope that the opener is available come Tuesday afternoon. There have been a number of changes at the top of the order this season already, with the likes of Kane Williamson, Wriddhiman Saha and Ricky Bhui all having a go in one of the open berths with varying degrees of success.
Another problem that Moody needs to address is Rashid Khan’s form which has gone off a cliff. The leg-spinner was destroyed by Chris Gayle earlier on last week before returning against CSK by getting Faf du Plessis with his first ball. What followed was absolute carnage as Ambathi Rayudu and Suresh Raina took full advantage. The young Afghan has now conceded 16 boundaries in his last two games after conceding just seven in his first three outings.
Key to the Sunrisers’ hopes on Tuesday will be the performance of Kane Williamson. The Kiwi scored a brilliant 51-ball 84 against the Super Kings last time out, laying the perfect platform for his team to get over the line. Unfortunately, they’d come up just four runs short despite the efforts of Yusuf Pathan and Khan lower down the order.
Perhaps Chris Jordan can come back into the side for Stanlake? The Englishman was superb against the Kings XI, conceding just 31 runs in his four overs. He definitely deserves another crack and will offer a bit of lower order power too if required.
Verdict: Mumbai Indians 72/100
Much of this relies on the top four of the Mumbai Indians. Should Yadav, Lewis, Kishan and Rohit all get into their work they’ll post a massive total – or have very little trouble chasing one down. If they can successfully negate Kumar at the top of the innings, they should get over the line comfortably. Get on at 72/100.
