Neil Morrice shares all of his best bets and tips from around the UK and Ireland for Sunday 21 April 2019. Tips and picks come your way fro Ffos Las, Plumpton, Southwell, Market Rasen in the United Kingdom and Fairyhouse in Ireland.
Ffos Las Best Bets
Race 1: LOSTNFOUND
Trainer: Jamie Snowden
Jockey: James Davies
The bare facts behind
LOSTNFOUND do not obviously suggest she can win this, but with a couple of near misses not long ago the six-year-old is unfortunate not to have obliged this season, and the race had still to develop when she fell in a higher class contest at Ayr. At likely double-figure odds, she has a solid Each Way chance.
Race 6: VOLCANO (4)
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies
Jockey: J Nailor
Taking a class drop after going within an ace of opening his account at Ascot,
VOLCANO holds outstanding claims in this weak maiden hurdle. He will undoubtedly go off as a warm favourite but is deserving of that and should win.
Plumpton Best Bets
Race 3: DREYFUS (2)
Trainer: Paul Webber
Jockey: Tom O'Brien
A shocker of a race in which
DREYFUS at least has very few miles on the clock and is, therefore, open to a bit of improvement. He is built to make his mark over fences and is reported to have schooled well ahead of this chasing debut for a yard that sent out a nice winner at Cheltenham last week.
Race 5: TZAR DE L'ELFE (2)
Trainer: Richard Rowe
Jockey: Andrew Glassonbury
The ground should have just enough juice in it for the wonderfully consistent
TZAR DE L'ELFE to bring his A-game to the table on what is his last outing before being sent out to summer grass. He's a good jumper, has shown a liking for this track and meets four rivals, three of whom are badly out of form.
Southwell Best Bets
Race 2: MYSTIC KNIGHT (3)
Trainer: Tim Easterby
Jockey: David Allan
While the dogs are barking the name of newcomer Constitutional, the previous racecourse experience of
MYSTIC KNIGHT can count for a lot in this. He went off as a 20-1 roughie on his Musselburgh debut and although clueless in the first half mile, picked up and stayed on at the finish. He should have learned a great deal from that.
Race 4: CAPE VICTORY (1)
Trainer: James Tate
Jockey: PJ McDonald
Tate has made a sizzling start to the turf season and
CAPE VICTORY gives him a huge chance of posting another success, one that would be the first for the selection who shaped so promisingly on his Newcastle introduction back in December. That defeat at the hooves of Almashriq gives him outstanding claims.
Market Rasen Best Bets
Race 3: SALTO CHISCO (3)
Trainer: Harry Whittington
Jockey: Page Fuller
Having travelled and jumped well on his first run after a break at Wincanton,
SALTO CHISCO is ready to go one better than that second placing to Southfield Torr. Whittington expected him to need that run and was not surprised the gelding got tired in the final 100 yards. The experience appears to have brought Salto Chisco on and this consistent performer can deliver.
Race 4: LARCH HILL (4)
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies
Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies
There was much to like about the way
LARCH HILL got the job done over this course and distance earlier in the month, so much that he's one to follow to run up a sequence. He looked better the further he travelled and can take full advantage of the 7lb he receives from Chosen.
Fairyhouse Best Bets
Race 1: MR EVEREST (12)
Trainer: AJ Martin
Jockey: Robbie Power
Very few of the 25 in this maiden hurdle can win and although I have respect for Batts Rock, the dual purpose six-year-old
MR EVEREST is just preferred. He followed two-placed efforts over hurdles last summer by scoring on the Flat at Listowel before plundering the November Handicap at Naas.
Race 5: RIDERS ONTHE STORM (2)
Trainer: Tom Taaffe
Jockey: JJ Slevin
Taaffe has given
RIDERS ONTHE STORM plenty of time to get over his Cheltenham fall and the talented six-year-old can take this as he cuts back to the minimum distance. With just four outings all season, the selection has scope for further improvement as a chaser, and is unlikely to run as freely as before his fall at the Festival.
