Super Rugby makes a welcome return in Australia this coming Friday with the Reds and Waratahs squaring off in the first game of the all-Australian tournament, Super Rugby AU. The Reds come into this one as favourites with the bookmakers and it's hardly surprising considering how poor the Waratahs were during Super Rugby.
Will the 'Tahs upset the applecart or will the Reds live up to their favourites billing?

Reds
The Reds had a bit of a tough start to the proper Super Rugby season only claiming two wins from their opening six fixtures, with the victories coming against two beleaguered sides in the for of the Sunwolves (64-5) and the Bulls (41-17).
While the aforementioned are not that spectacular, the Reds did give a good account of themselves in some of the early Super Rugby action going down 24-20 to the Crusaders and 27-24 to the Brumbies. They were actually rather competitive in most of their games making an in form Sharks side work for their 10-point victory and causing the Jaguares massive problems in the first half of their encounter in Argentina.
They have some really exciting backs who will pose a real threat in this Saturday including star centre Jordan Petaia, who was in great touch earlier this year.
Waratahs
The Waratahs will have been one of the few sides that would have greatly appreciated the cancellation of the 2020 Super Rugby season. The men from New South Wales were having an absolute 'mare and could only manage one win from their opening six games, with that victory coming against a struggling Lions outfit.
They had lost a host of star players during the 2019 season and they have continued to bleed experienced talent with Wallaby Kurtley Beale having been released from his contract. They look a very blunt side, particularly in the backline where a lot of the attacking burden has fallen on the shoulders of young fly-half Will Harrison, who was very hit and miss during Super Rugby.
Verdict: Reds (-)
I really do fancy the hosts. They seem a galvanised unit while the Waratahs are a hodge-podge amalgamation of over the hill forwards and raw backs. My money is on the hosts clearing the 'cap with points to spare.
