The Bulls will be looking to secure top spot on the Currie Cup log with a round to spare when they take on a Golden Lions on Wednesday the 6th of January.

There's a midweek Currie Cup action headed your way with the Bulls and Lions going head-to-head in a trans-Jukskei derby. There's a lot riding on this one as the Bulls can secure top spot on the log with a win here, and this would allow them to rest their big-name players ahead of the semi-finals next weekend.
The Lions will also be keen to get a win here as it would give them an outside chance of hosting a semi-final, although they would need Western Province and the Sharks to draw this coming weekend in order for a semi-final to be played at Emirates Airline Park.

Bulls 6/10

Lions 27/20
Handicap
Bulls 17/20 (-3.5)
Lions 17/20 (+3.5)
Bulls
It feels like an age since the Bulls last took to the field with the Loftus side out of action for three weeks due to COVID-19 and a bye week.
Prior to their break, the Bulls suffered their first defeat as they went down 32-29 to the Sharks in an absolute thriller down in Durban. This was the first defeat of their Currie Cup games with their two other fixtures seeing them beat the Cheetahs 40-13 and Western Province 20-22.
The Bulls have every handy recent record against the Lions winning the past three games between the sides. The duo have squared off once this year already with the Bulls running out 25-30 victors out at Emirates Airline Park during Super Rugby Unlocked.
Lions
While it's not likely that the Lions will secure a home semi-final berth, they will still go all out to get a win over a Bulls side who they ran extremely close during Super Rugby Unlocked.
Joburg's pride are well capable of doing this as well as they have come into a great patch of form since the Currie Cup got underway winning all five of their fixtures. Unfortunately, for them, they have only managed to pick up just a solitary bonus point. If they had been better at accumulating bonus points, then they could well have found themselves at the top of the Currie Cup log.
The Lions weren't at their best last weekend as they struggled to a 25-33 victory over the minnow side, the Pumas. They were in great touch the week prior, however, as they beat the Sharks 27-12.
Verdict: Bulls 17/20 (-3.5)
I would have been all over the Lions plus had dry conditions been forecast for Wednesday evening. There's some rain floating around, however, and I reckon this will play right into the Bulls' hooves.
