Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips from Sunday's racing coming your way from Fontwell Park and Hereford.
FONTWELL PARK
Race 2 No2 ANEMOI
Trainer: Harry Whittington - Jockey: Gavin Sheehan
I hope the ground doesn’t dry out for ANEMOI who is in very good order following a break. He might not have been right when disappointing at Newbury in November and had won his previous two starts in the manner of a good prospect. His trainer’s horses have shown they are back in the zone.
Race 3 No2 CORNERSTONE LAD
Trainer: Micky Hammond - Jockey: Billy Garrity
CORNERSTONE LAD can make this National Spirit Hurdle biggest career success since his shock defeat of Buveur D’Air in last year’s ‘Fighting Fifth’ at Newcastle. While he hasn’t managed to add to his laurels in two runs over fences he will appreciate the return to hurdling, while this tight figure-of-eight circuit will play to his strengths.
Race 6 No4 SAMETEGAL
Trainer: Paul Nicholls - Jockey: Harry Cobden
The class act in this hunter chase is SAMETEGAL. He’s up against 15 foes and the possibility of traffic during the contest is as much a threat to him as the other horses. He had to ultimately work for his win at Wincanton, and though the form’s been devalued he is probably better than he showed and represents powerful connections.
Race 7 No1 BRAVE KINGDOM (Nap)
Trainer: Harry Whittington - Jockey: Gavin Sheehan
Former Irish pointer BRAVE KINGDOM has given out some very encouraging signals ahead of this debut under Rules. He’s been all dressed up with nowhere to go but is a horse that can make up for that lost time and is one to follow.
HEREFORD
Race 1 No1 TORN AND FRAYED
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies - Jockey: Jordan Nailor
TORN AND FRAYED went close in a hurdle at Haydock before running well in a Kempton jumper-bumper. He looked in good order in his winding-up work for this last week and deserves a change of luck.
Race 5 No3 HENRY GONDOFF (Nap)
Trainer: Jonjo O’Neill - Jockey: Jonjo O’Neill Jr
HENRY GONDOFF has rapidly progressed in three starts under Rules, getting his act together with a clear cut triumph in a novice hurdle at Wetherby. If turning up in the same mood he will be a tough nut for market rivals Bothwell Bridge and Exploiteur to crack.
Race 7 No6 SATURDAY SONG
Trainer: Gary Brown - Jockey: Kevin Brogan
All those with form in the concluding bumper have finished in the money, suggesting this is an open heat. One that could make great strides is SATURDAY SONG, who was an unconsidered roughie when placing on debut at Newbury last month. His small stable is warm when going for a touch, and a market watch is therefore strongly advised.
