Our soccer analyst previews the German Bundesliga week 28 action which kicks off on Friday 5 April 2019.
Borussia Dortmund reclaimed top spot last weekend after Bayern Munich played to a stalemate at Freiburg. Round 28 will see the titans of German football collide with the Bavarians looking to leapfrog BVB, while the Borussians will be keen to extend their lead at the summit!
Hannover, Nuremburg and Stuttgart occupy the relegation zone respectfully and will be desperate to climb out of the hole they have dug themselves in. Let’s get to this weekend’s action!

Freiburg 22/10
Mainz have been in terrible form with four consecutive defeats, scoring just twice and conceding 12 goals. Freiburg are off the back of an impressive 1-1 home draw against Bayern Munich, extending their unbeaten streak to three matches.
The reverse tie ended in a four-goal thriller with Mainz leaving the Schwarzwald-Stadion with an emphatic 3-1 victory and all three points. This time they are looking to end their disappointing losing run against an in-form Freiburg side.
Another cracker is on the cards with both teams tipped to find the back of the net at 7/10.

Wolfsburg 7/20

Hannover 13/2
Wolfsburg were downed 2-0 at Borussia Dortmund last time out but return to their ground where they will take on the league’s basement-dwellers. Hannover have lost their last seven games in all competitions and that form doesn’t look likely to improve here.
However, recent meetings between these sides have been cagey to say the least and with Hannover fighting for their topflight status, a tight contest is very much likely.
The Totals – Under 2.5 goals – market is tipped at 27/20.
Hertha Berlin 9/10

Dusseldorf 29/10
Hertha Berlin have been dismal in recent weeks with three losses on the trot, including a 5-0 hammering at Leipzig last weekend. Dusseldorf were excellent as they ousted Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1 at home.
We are likely to be treated to an attacking game of football with goals on the menu.

Schalke 19/10

Eintracht Frankfurt 14/10
Schalke ended a run of seven losses with a hard-fought 1-0 win away to Hannover. They return to the Veltins-Arena, where they have the second worse home form in the league with just four wins from 13 matches.
Eintracht Frankfurt have been in top form with five wins in a row.
It won’t be cut and dry and will most likely go down to the wire but I’m backing the Eagles to come away with maximum points.
Bayer Leverkusen 13/10

Leipzig 37/20
Bayer Leverkusen have been poor of late with back-to-back defeats, scoring only twice and conceding seven times. Leipzig are unbeaten in their last nine league games with six wins and three draws.
The last five meetings between these sides have seen a combined total of 18 goals scored at an average of 3.6 per game.
With that being said, the Totals – Over 2.5 Goals – market looks well worth a punt at 11/20.
Stuttgart 8/10

Nuremburg 7/2
Stuttgart are without a win in their last three matches, including a 3-0 drubbing at Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend. However, Nuremburg have the worse away record in the league as they remain winless on the road, scoring just eight goals and conceding 36 times.
Both teams are struggling for form but home advantage could be a deciding factor here.
Back Stuttgart to claim all three points.

Borussia Dortmund 9/2
Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund will reignite their rivalry in what is undoubtedly the match of the weekend. The Bavarians stuttered last time out, playing to a 1-1 draw at Freiburg but return to the Allianz Arena, where they remain unbeaten with 12 wins from 14 games.
BVB have won three games on the spin and will be hoping to extend their lead at the summit. This one could go either way with the sides being evenly matches.

Augsburg are off the back of a disappointing 3-0 defeat away to Nuremburg but return to their home patch where they have won two on the bounce, including a 2-1 victory over Dortmund. Hoffenheim were brilliant at the weekend as they ousted Bayer Leverkusen 4-1 at home.
However, they are without a win in their last four travels.
Both Teams to Score – Yes – is tipped at 4/10. Get on!
Monchengladbach 11/10

Werder Bremen 9/4
The final match of the round pits Monchengladbach up against Werder Bremen. The latter have been in top form with three straight wins, scoring 10 goals, while the Borussians have managed just one win from their last seven games.
Goals look a certainty here with the last two meetings producing four-goal thrillers.
