Our football expert previews round 33 of the Italian Serie A which resumes on Saturday the 20th of April 2019.
Last weekend saw enough shock results, including Juve’s defeat at SPAL 2013. The defending champions might have had one eye on their quarter-final second leg meeting with Ajax in all fairness with the Old Lady 17 points clear of the next best on the Serie A standings.
There was no change in the form of the relegation battle with Empoli, Frosinone and Chievo still occupying the bottom three. The race for top four remains anyone’s guess but Napoli looking likely to take second place and Inter Milan five points clear of fourth. AC Milan, Roma, Atalanta, Torino, Lazio and Sampdoria will slug it out for the final UEFA Champions League spot.

Saturday 20 April
Parma 4/1
Draw 26/10
AC Milan 15/20
Parma are without a win in their last five matches and have failed to hit the back of the net in their last two outings. AC Milan ended a winless run of four games last weekend with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Lazio.
The Rossoneri remain in the hunt for a top four finish and will be hungry to grab all three points this weekend.
With the hosts battling to score goals of late, Milan are tipped to snatch maximum points.
Bologna 12/10
Draw 47/20
Sampdoria 9/4
Bologna are just two points clear of the relegation zone but return to home soil this weekend, where they have won three on the spin, scoring seven goals and conceding just once. Sampdoria bounced back to winning ways with a 2-0 home win over Genoa, following back-to-back defeats.
La Samp are still in the hunt for a Champions League place but face stiff competition. An entertaining affair is on the cards with both sides desperate for the win.
Take Both Teams to Score – Yes – at 15/20.
Udinese 27/20
Draw 9/4
Sassuolo 21/10
At the time of writing, Udinese are yet to play their match at Lazio. The Friulians have won two matches on the bounce at home and will be hoping to maintain that form at the Dacia Arena. Sassuolo have registered just one win from their last 11 games.
The hosts still face a strong reality of facing axe come the season’s end and will likely show more desire to claim the all-important victory. This has proven to be a cagey and low-scoring affair over the years.
Get on the Totals Market – Under 2.5 Goals – at 7/10.
Empoli 11/10
Draw 47/20
SPAL 51/20
18th placed Empoli will be looking to capitalize on home advantage and are very capable of doing so after seeing off Napoli in their last contest at Stadio Carlo Castellani. SPAL come into this matchup off the back of a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over runaway-leaders Juventus. They have also four of their last five matches.
The reverse tie ended in a four-goal thriller with the sides sharing the spoils in an epic 2-2 stalemate.
This one should go down to the wire but I’m backing Empoli to claim a narrow victory.
Genoa 33/20
Draw 2/1
Torino 18/10
Genoa are winless in their last four matches, including three defeats and one draw, scoring only once and conceding nine times. Torino have shown solidity in recent weeks but their attacking prowess have let them down on one too many occasions.
However, the home team are struggling to do anything right at the moment and Torino are likely to capitalize on that.
The away win is the way to go.
Lazio 2/11
Draw 57/10
Chievo 13/1
Lazio are without a win in their last three matches but return to their home ground where they are likely to easily see off relegation-doomed Chievo. At the time of writing, Lazio are yet to play their matchup on home soil against Udinese but that result shouldn’t affect this game in the least bit.
The Eagles won this fixture 5-1 last season and are expected to claim another routine win here.
Take the hosts on the (-1) Handicap at 5/10.
Cagliari 9/10
Draw 24/10
Frosinone 31/10
Cagliari have won three of their last five matches and are coming off a hard-earned 1-1 draw away to Torino. Frosinone are deep in the danger zone and are beyond the point of desperation. With that being said, I’m expecting them to come out guns blazing but that might work in Cagliari’s favour.
The corresponding fixture saw the sides play to a fair 1-1 draw.
This time I’m expecting the Islanders to utilize home advantage.
Juventus 4/10
Draw 33/10
Fiorentina 7/1
Juventus hit a slight speed wobble in round 32, tasting only their second Serie A defeat of the season. That could have been down to their focus being on the second leg quarter-final Champions League tie against Ajax as well as the fact that the Old Lady are still a massive 17 points clear of the pack. It’s only a matter of time until they are crowned Champions of Italy yet again.
If you reading this, I’m sure you have noticed I have not mentioned Fiorentina, well until just now. That’s because their chances of winning are slim to none.
Back Juve to see off the Viola who are without a win in their last nine matches in all competitions.
Inter Milan 8/10
Draw 28/10
Roma 33/10
The penultimate match of the round happens to be our blockbuster fixture. Inter Milan and Roma are both gunning for top four but the former are winless in their last three home games in all competitions, failing to find the back of the net on all three occasions as well.
Roma have won back-to-back 1-0 victories over Sampdoria (away) and Udinese (home).
The last six meetings between these sides have seen both teams find the back of the net – follow the trend and take Both Teams to Score – Yes – at 7/10.
Monday 22 April
Napoli 9/10
Draw 26/10
Atalanta 11/4
We round off the Serie A’s action with a mouth-watering clash on Monday evening as Napoli play host to Atalanta. The Azzurri have won 11 of their 16 home games, while Atalanta are unbeaten in their last eight matches in all competitions.
A high-scoring affair is on the cards with both sides playing some great football.
The Totals – Over 2.5 Goals – market is tipped at 6/10.
TREBLE TIPPED @ 7/2
Cagliari Win 9/10
Juventus Win 4/10
Inter Milan vs Roma BTTS (Yes) 7/10
