Neil Morrice brings you his best bets and tips from Wednesday's racing taking place at Beverley, Newmarket and Cheltenham.
Beverley Best Bets
Race 1 BIRKENHEAD (7)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: Callum Shepherd
Captain Gerrard colt
BIRKENHEAD carries the greatest experience to post and it can serve him in good stead. He finished only just out of the money in the Brocklesby at Doncaster and then ran into one on the Lingfield Polytrack. Back on turf here, he could know too much for the others in a race dominated by locally-trained juveniles that haven't run.
Race 5: LINE OF REASON (3)
Trainer: Paul Midgley
Jockey: Joe Fanning
Having run some of his best races over the course and distance,
LINE OF REASON is going to be a value option in this Class 3 handicap and can surprise his younger rivals. Apart from disappointing on his final 2018 start in a very tough race at Doncaster he performed consistently well without enjoying the rub of the green.
Newmarket Best Bets
Race 4: ZAKOUSKI (10)
Trainer: Charlie Appleby
Jockey: William Buick
The Shamardal colt ZAKOUSKI has wowed work watchers on the Heath and can turn a big home reputation into reality by endorsing his prospects for the 2,000 Guineas.
He demonstrated his ability by readily landing the spoils on his racecourse debut at Kempton in November and can utilise a potent turn of foot to take this Classic trial in his stride.
Race 6: JALMOUD (7)
Trainer: Charlie Appleby
Jockey: William Buick
After meeting defeat when odds-on for his debut at Newcastle,
JALMOUD can turn things around having thrived during the winter and pleased in his preparation for this.
He faces three previous winners including stablemate One Vision but is ready to rubber stamp the promise of his home form on the racecourse itself.
Cheltenham Best Bets
Race 2: MISTER WHITAKER (2)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: Jonathan Burke
A winner here at the 2018 Festival, MISTER WHITAKER should be forgiven his low key performance in the Ultima Handicap Chase last month. A morning deluge completely changed the going and the seven-year-old couldn't pick his feet out of it, losing ground at every fences before being pulled up. Completely different underfoot conditions await him on the New course today.
Race 3: ESPOIR DE TEILLEE (7)
Trainer: Tom George
Jockey: Jonathan Burke
With ifs and buts against a number of these, the one to focus on is ESPOIR DE TEILLEE, the only unexposed horse in the field. On his debut for George at Exeter, he ran a cracker to beat all but Trans Express, and considering his previous two starts were winning ones he has plenty going for him. They were spaced well apart owing to injury problems, but it seems that his old problems are now behind him.
