CATTERICK
Race 5: No5 - NEWSCASTER
Trainer: Karl Burke - Jockey: C Lee
This might not be such a warm maiden, giving newcomer
NEWSCASTER the opportunity to deliver at the first time of asking. The daughter of emerging sire a Make Believe is stoutly bred but has shown sufficient speed in her preparatory work to surprise the more experienced pair Aroha and Dramatista.
Race 7: No8 - VITARE (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Channon - Jockey: Ben Curtis
VITARE has been unlucky not to win this season and gets the chance in this media auction maiden to put the record straight. He’s hit the crossbar a couple of times this season, latterly being pounced on by 80-1 shot Amathus at Windsor as the pair pulled well clear. As long as he handles this tight, undulating track the gelding should oblige.
KEMPTON
Race 6: No6 - GOLDEN PINE (Nap)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute - Jockey: William Buick
In receipt of 7lb from the penalised Almighwar,
GOLDEN PINE can put his best foot forward in this novice. Although unable to resist Wise Glory at Leicester the Golden Horn colt did nothing wrong on that debut and is going to progress.
Race 7: No13 - WIGHTMAN (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon - Jockey: George Bass
WIGHTMAN has started 20-1 and 18-1 on his two runs on the all-weather this season but when third to the impressive Al Salt at Wolverhampton raised his game sufficiently to believe he should now be ripe for a first career win. He finds himself in a seriously competitive race, getting just 3lb from the top weight in what is a very compressed handicap. However, his apprentice pilot takes a valuable 5lb off his back, which could prove worth its weight in gold.
YARMOUTH
Race 3: No6 - ZOOKEEPER
Trainer: Mark Johnston - Jockey: Ryan Moore
ZOOKEEPER acquitted himself well when third on debut at Doncaster in what looked a warm heat. The exotically-bred colt, who is by Dubawi out of a Group winner in Brazil, kept on well for minor honours behind the impressive Chindit. He faces stern opposition from the well-touted newcomer Boomshalaa but can play his experience card to telling effect.
Race 4: No14 - RHYME SCHEME (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon - Jockey: Silvestre De Sousa
RHYME SCHEME should represent value in this fillies’ maiden contested by a big field of 16, few of whom can win. She has earned in four of her six outings and kept on for a minor cheque at Windsor last time. She’s been in good form at home, to the extent that she could find the bit extra required to repel One Small Step.
Race 6: No4 - ARISTOCRATIC LADY (Nap)
Trainer: Simon Crisford - Jockey: Andrea Atzeni
With more scope than anything in the field,
ARISTOCRATIC LADY can successfully progress into the handicap arena from what looks a workable mark. The daughter of Invincible Spirit shaped well on both starts as a juvenile and gained a tidy first career triumph on her comeback at Leicester from which she has gone forward.
