Neil Morrice brings you all of his best bets and tips for Tuesday's racing coming your way from Carlisle, Catterick Bridge, Kempton Park and Newcastle.
CARLISLE
Race 1 No8 POLDARK CROSS (Nap)
Trainer: Harry Whittington - Jockey: Alan Doyle
POLDARK CROSS has acquitted himself well on both starts for a trainer who has had to sit and suffer for most of the campaign with his team struck down by a virus. However, there are clear signs that those problems are now a part of history, and this former Irish point winner could be a horse worth waiting for on his first start in a handicap.
Race 3 No2 PAY THE PIPER
Trainer: Ann Hamilton - Jockey: Danny McMenamin
Two hat-trick seekers will dominate the betting in this first division of the novices’ hurdle, and while Castle RUSHEN has been off since November, PAY THE PIPER turns up on the back of a clear cut delivery on debut for his trainer at Sedgefield before Christmas. He was sourced from a very reliable man in Ireland and at the respective prices looks the logical step to take.
Race 4 No2 RAF TRAVEL
Trainer: Ben Pauling - Jockey: Daryl Jacob
Although getting lonely out in front, Dreams Of Home got the job done well enough at Wetherby last time, and will take out the bulk of the wagering handle on this second leg of the novices’ hurdle. He needs respecting, but could fall to joker in the pack RAF TRAVEL who was last seen scoring in deep ground at Compiegne in the summer. The selection represents his trainer’s top patrons and is the subject of favourable reports.
CATTERICK BRIDGE
Race 3 No1 HUDSON YARD (Nap)
Trainer: Jamie Snowden - Jockey: Gavin Sheehan
Having made the perfect start with a decisive triumph at Exeter last month, HUDSON YARD can further build on her achievements for a trainer that does well with this type of mare. She’s shown an affinity for easy conditions, and will be a bigger price than automatic favourite Wild Polly.
Race 4 No5 INFORMATEUR
Trainer: Sue Smith - Jockey: Ryan Mania
This isn’t a race to invest too heavily in, but granted her fine record in the contest the Smith candidate
INFORMATEUR needs to be afforded considerable respect. He was in good form before Christmas and with a good record coming back off a break makes plenty of appeal.
Race 6 No10 KILCREA VALE (Each Way)
Trainer: Will Ramsay - Jockey: Ryan Mania
KILCREA VALE was unable to rediscover his early promise as a novice chaser and now makes his debut for a new trainer as an eleven-year-old. It may be that a change of scenery to a different part of the country is what he needed, and at likely big double figure odds he’s worth backing to show it.
Race 7 No5 MEXICO (Each Way)
Trainer: Stuart Edmunds - Jockey: Ciaran Gethings
While MEXICO hasn’t yet quite got his act together he’s arguably going to post with the best form in the bumper, although his position in the betting market doesn’t reflect that. Consequently he is attractive as a win and place candidate as one of the most experienced runners in the field.
KEMPTON PARK
Race 4 No3 KESTENNA (Nap)
Trainer: John Gosden - Jockey: Rab Havlin
It was only through greenness that KESTENNA didn’t prevail on her debut at Lingfield and the daughter of Pride Of Dubai duly made no mistake next time at Wolverhampton. She absolutely hacked up that day and should know too much for the beautifully-bred debutant Colour Of Light.
Race 7 No1 MACK THE KNIFE
Trainer: James Ferguson - Jockey: Daniel Muscutt
MACK THE KNIFE jumps off the page as the one to be on in the nightcap as he tries to follow-up a resounding first win for his trainer at Wolverhampton. Backed as if defeat was out of the question, he came home by a wide margin and need only show up in the same frame of mind to win again.
NEWCASTLE
Race 1 No7 HORN OF PLENTY
Trainer: Andrew Balding - Jockey: David Probert
Taking the view that this course will suit HORN OF PLENTY even better than Wolverhampton, scene of her win three weeks ago, the Golden Horn filly is taken to end the unbeaten run of Alpha Theta. The selection was only burdened with a small merit rise for her fine staying performance at Dunstall Park, and can take full advantage of the 6lb she receives from her main foe.
Race 3 No8 FLYIN HIGH (Nap)
Trainer: Andrew Balding - Jockey: David Probert
Everything points to FLYIN HIGH being another for Balding in this novice stakes. The Siyouni colt smoothly opened his account over course and distance last month and that form has been endorsed with the second and third home both going on to score. It was only a second career start for the Nap, who is very strongly fancied to follow-up.
