The Aviva Premiership returns from its short sabbatical with Bath and Northampton set to get the Round 14 action underway when they clash on Friday the 9th of February.
Fifth-placed Bath will be looking to close the gap on the teams occupying the semi-final berths when they take on a struggling Northampton outfit this Friday evening. The visitors are enduring a dreadful season and currently sit just sixteen points off the foot of the table.
Bath Rugby v Northampton Saints | Friday 9 February | The Recreation Ground | 21:35
To Win (80 Mins)
Bath 3/10 | Draw 20/1 | Northampton 26/10
Bath Rugby
The 2017/18 campaign is turning out to be a case of near misses for Todd Blackadder's men, who missed out on qualification for the next round of the European Rugby Champions Cup by just two points.
Bath have enjoyed a better time of it in the Anglo-Welsh Cup, which they secured playoff qualification for by beating Ospreys 19-32. I make note of the Anglo-Welsh Cup as Bath of likely to field a very similar side to the one that turned out in that competition last Friday to the one that takes on Northampton this coming weekend.
Todd Blackadder's men may be currently occupying the fifth position on the Aviva Premiership table but they are one of the teams to watch during the Six Nations period.Unlike Saracens and Exeter, Bath haven't lost that many big guns to international call-ups. As such, Bath will be looking to take advantage while their fellow semi-finals hopefuls are not at full strength.
Northampton Saints
It really has been a tumultuous season for Northampton who currently reside in 10th-place on the Premiership standings. The Saints also bowed out of the Champions Cup, nad finished at the foot of the Pool 2 table, having only managed to muster up six points from their six outings.
Like Bath, the Saints have had a better time of it during the Anglo-Welsh Cup with their 36-10 victory over Harlequins last weekend securing them a semi-final against - in a twist of irony - Bath. Their big victory was sparked by the return of Welsh winger George North, who took just seven minutes to score. Unfortunately for the Saints, North has been called up to the Welsh squad.
Verdict: Bath 3/10
It's their time to shine and I honestly can't see them doing anything but this coming Friday evening. Bath are a solid side and should have too much about them for struggling Northampton side.
