Our football writer previews the English Premier League Week seven action which kicks off on Saturday 29 September 2018.
It was another exciting week of Premier League football as Liverpool maintained their dominance in the top flight, winning all six of their matches played so far. The same cannot be said for Chelsea, who stumbled for the first time this season, drawing blank in a goalless draw away to West Ham last weekend.
Champions, Manchester City, kept up the pressure atop the table, moving above Chelsea after a convincing 5-0 victory away to Cardiff City. Tottenham returned to winning ways at the Amex Stadium when they claimed a hard-fought 2-1 win against Brighton, elsewhere, Arsenal picked up their fourth consecutive win in the league, while Manchester United succumbed to a 1-1 draw at home to Wolves. This weekend, its advantage Man City as both title-rivals, Chelsea and Liverpool, lock horns at Stamford Bridge in the highlight fixture of the weekend.
Saturday 29 September
West Ham 33/10
Draw 26/10
Manchester United 17/20
West Ham seem to be finding form at the perfect time in their season. After a superb 3-1 win away to Everton, the Hammers held Chelsea to a goalless draw at the London Stadium in a game they could have nicked, had it not been for some wasteful finishing from Manuel Pellegrini’s men.
Manchester United are on a winless run at Old Trafford, failing to win their last two games at the famous ground, so perhaps an away trip will be best suited for Jose Mourinho’s men. They’re off the back of emphatic away wins against Watford and Burnley, although their home draw against Wolves could knock away some confidence in their quest to climb the table with a win. With Marko Arnautovic back in the fold, West Ham will look a much better team. Get on the Hammers to Win + Draw & Both Teams to Score at 2/1.
Huddersfield 13/2
Draw 7/2
Tottenham 9/20
Huddersfield will be hoping for a miracle when they host Tottenham Hotspur at the John Smith’s Stadium this Saturday. The Terriers are one of three teams yet to win in the league this season and are one of two clubs yet to score a goal at their home grounds.
Tottenham ended their run of two straight losses in the league with a 2-1 win away to Brighton. Harry Kane netted his third goal of the campaign, and you get the feeling that the English marksman needed that goal to regain his confidence after a short barren run in the Premier League. Spurs have been decent on the road this season and should pick up maximum points here.
Arsenal 9/20
Draw 4/1
Watford 11/2
It seems Unai Emery’s men are finally starting to gel under his tutelage and the table is starting to prove that with Arsenal claiming four consecutive wins in a row. They’re just a point behind Watford, who will be looking to return to winning ways after losing against Manchester United and drawing against Fulham.
The Hornets’ Troy Deeney and Andre Gray have been in fine form this season and will look to bully the Arsenal defence, who kept their first clean sheet of the campaign last weekend in a 2-0 win over Everton. The Gunners have a fearsome strikeforce of their own in Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, both of whom were on target last weekend. Arsenal are finally clicking together and should make it five wins in a row – one for all multiples.
Wolves 15/20
Draw 26/10
Southampton 4/1
Wolves have adjusted to the Premier League just as they had hoped and are now on a four-game unbeaten streak. In that run, Wolves have held both Manchester giants to a 1-1 stalemate, and remain undefeated at the Molineux Stadium.
Southampton come into this game off the back of a very much one-sided 3-0 defeat away to Liverpool, although, the Saints will welcome back Danny Ings after he was unable to feature against his parent club. The English striker has three goals to his name so far and the Saints look a much better team when he is in it. Still, Wolves should have too much class for the visitors here at 15/20.
Manchester City 1/11
Draw 9/1
Brighton 25/1
Manchester City moved up to second on the table with a thumping 5-0 win away to Cardiff. The Citizens have been accused of not being at their best this season, but are still somehow second on the log and are yet to taste defeat.
You just simply cannot write off Pep Guardiola’s side. In fact, if results go in their favour this weekend, they could go on top of the table. Brighton are yet to claim victory on the road this season, and its highly doubtful that their first win comes at the Etihad Stadium.
Back Manchester City to Win By Three Goals or More here at 7/10.
Everton 15/20
Draw 3/1
Fulham 33/10
Everton will be hoping to return to winning ways after a run of four games without victory. The Toffees failed to score for the first time this season in their 2-0 defeat against Arsenal, while Marco Silva’s men are still in search of their first clean sheet.
Another tough test stands in Everton’s way as they welcome Fulham to Goodison Park, who boast the league’s joint top scorer in Aleksandar Mitrovic, who has five goals to his tally. Fulham are yet to win on the road this season, and have conceded 13 goals already this campaign. Both Teams to Score seems the best bet here at 11/20.
Newcastle 15/10
Draw 22/10
Leicester City 39/20
Newcastle find themselves in the bottom three, being one of three teams yet to win this season. The Toon Army have also lost all three of their home games this term. At this early stage, its not looking good for Rafa Benitez. Leicester City came from behind to claim a much-needed 3-1 home win against Huddersfield.
Jamie Vardy produced a stellar display in his second game back from suspension and was in the thick of things as the Foxes looked a superb side on the day. James Maddison has also been in fine form for Leicester City this season, scoring three goals. At 39/20, there’s plenty of value on the Foxes to pick up maximum points.
Chelsea 2/1
Draw 51/20
Liverpool 13/10
Liverpool are top of the table after recording six wins in a row, while Chelsea are two points behind in third place after failing to beat West Ham last weekend, drawing 0-0 at the London Stadium. I’ve been very impressed with both sides’ start to the season and we should be in for an entertaining affair as both teams thrive on attacking football.
I’m expecting a couple of goals and I think if we’re going to have a winner, Liverpool might just edge it. As a diehard Chelsea fan, I hope I get this wrong, but the smart thing to do is back the Reds on the Win/Draw Double Chance & Both Teams to Score at 11/10.
Sunday 30 September
Cardiff 31/20
Draw 39/20
Burnley 21/10
Cardiff have struggled since their return to the top flight and are rooted to the foot of the table, failing to win in any of their six games played so far. In their defence, they have faced Arsenal, Chelsea and come off the back of a forgettable clash against Man City.
Burnley will be hoping that their 4-0 thumping win over Bournemouth could help them turn the corner and mount a real challenge to get into the top half of the table. Sean Dyche certainly knows how to get his team ticking again and I’m confident his side can pick up maximum points in Wales. Back the away win here at 21/10!
Monday 1 October
Bournemouth 5/4
Draw 49/20
Crystal Palace 22/10
Bournemouth will return to the Vitality Stadium this Monday night when they host Crystal Palace. The Eagles have been much better away from home this season, winning two of the three matches away from Selhurst Park. Meanwhile, the Cherries are unbeaten at their turf with two victories from three matches.
Ryan Fraser has been immense for Bournemouth with three goals to his name, while Wilfried Zaha has been just as good for Palace. It should be a goal fest on Monday night. Avoid picking a winner in this tie and opt for Both Teams to Score instead at 13/20.
TREBLE TIPPED @ 66/10
West Ham Win + Draw & BTTS 2/1
Arsenal Win 9/20
Wolves Win 15/20
