Our soccer analyst previews the German Bundesliga week 11 action which kicks off on Friday 9 November 2018.
The Bundesliga returns on Friday evening with Borussia Dortmund still leading the pack. Bayern Munich can’t seem to maintain winning form and further down the table, Hannover, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart continue to fight for their survival in the top flight.
Friday 9 November
Hannover 18/10 | Draw 23/10 | Wolfsburg 15/10
Hannover have been dismal with back-to-back losses but take on a wobbling Wolfsburg side on Friday evening. The Wolves have lost three of their last four matches and will be looking to turn that form around.
This fixture is usually low-scoring and dull to say the least. Five of the last six meetings have produced under 2.5 goals. Follow the pattern at 8/10.
Saturday 10 November
Dusseldorf 47/20 | Draw 49/20 | Hertha Berlin 11/10
New boys on the blog, Dusseldorf, have been horrendous with six losses on the spin. Hertha Berlin were humiliated last weekend after being smashed 3-0 on home soil. However, the week prior they had held Dortmund to a 2-2 draw at Westfalenstadion.
The newcomers have scored just six goals and conceded 24 – the joint worst attack and defence in the league. Back Hertha Berlin to come away with all three points.
Werder Bremen 14/10 | Draw 26/10 | Monchengladbach 7/4
Werder Bremen have been poor of late with two losses on the bounce and play host to Monchengladbach who have been in great form with three wins from their last four matches, including a 3-0 victory over Dusseldorf last weekend.
The River Islanders have struggled against ‘Gladbach in recent meetings. The Borussians won’t have it cut and dry but they should do enough to get the win.
Nuremburg 14/10 | Draw 24/10 | Stuttgart 37/20
Nuremburg are without a win in their last four games but are coming off a hard-fought 2-2 draw away to Augsburg. Stuttgart have been dreadful with four consecutive defeats, scoring 14 goals and conceding just once.
This one is likely to go down to the wire with the hosts looking to stay out of the drop zone, while the Swabians will be desperate to make their way up from the bottom. Take Nuremburg to make home advantage count.
Freiburg 11/10 | Draw 23/10 | Mainz 5/2
Freiburg have been impressive of late, humbling title-chasing Monchengladbach 3-1 at home before earning an impressive 1-1 draw at defending champions Bayern Munich last time out. Mainz are winless on the road, scoring once and conceding seven times.
The hosts have won three of the last four meetings at home against the Carnival club and are tipped to add to that.
The home win should be backed.
Hoffenheim 13/20 | Draw 33/10 | Augsburg 7/2
Hoffenheim hit some top form with three wins in a row, scoring 11 goals and conceding only twice. Augsburg have managed just three wins from 10 matches and that doesn’t look like improving here.
The home side are unbeaten in the last six meetings against Augsburg with four wins and two draws. The form and head-to-head stats say it all. I’m backing Hoffenheim to come out on top.
Borussia Dortmund 21/10 | Draw 11/4 | Bayern Munich 23/20
It’s a clash of the titans in Saturday’s main event with Borussia Dortmund locking horns with Bayern Munich. BVB remain unbeaten with seven wins from 10 matches, scoring 30 goals, while have been stop and go with a lack of consistency.
The Bavarians were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw at home against Freiburg last weekend. Most of the time I would follow Bayern but the Black and Yellow army are looking too good to pass up at a valuable 21/10! Get on!
Sunday 11 November
Leipzig 17/20 | Draw 29/10 | Bayer Leverkusen 26/10
Leipzig are unbeaten on home soil as well as their last eight matches. Bayer Leverkusen are off the back of a 4-1 defeat at home against Hoffenheim and will be eager to bounce back to winning ways.
The Red Bulls are coming off an impressive 3-0 win away to Hertha Berlin. They are playing attractive football and should be confident enough to get the win. Back Leipzig to claim maximum points.
Eintracht Frankfurt 27/20 | Draw 9/4 | Schalke 21/10
Eintracht Frankfurt are unbeaten in their last five matches, including four victories. Schalke are just four points off the drop zone with just three wins from 10 games, scoring eight goals. However, they won 3-1 at home against Hannover last weekend and will be looking to build on that.
The Eagles are currently firing on all cylinders, giving me no reason but to follow that winning formula until it fails. Take Eintracht Frankfurt to claim the win.
