Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips for Monday's racing at Brighton, Thirsk, Windsor and Wolverhampton.
Brighton Best Bets
Race 5: CHARLES KINGSLEY (1)
Trainer: Mark Johnston
Jockey: Franny Norton
The ultra-consistent
CHARLES KINGSLEY goes into battle with his tail up after a dominating display at Hamilton, and even under his 5lb penalty is going to be very hard to beat. His trainer excels with this type of horse who once getting their act together can easily run up a sequence.
Thirsk Best Bets
Race 1: LEAPERS WOOD (2)
Trainer: Michael Dods
Jockey: Tom Eaves
Although easy to back when green on his Carlisle debut,
LEAPERS WOOD really grabbed the bit when the penny dropped to finish best of all in third behind Rayong. The colt is going to relish this extra furlong and will know a lot more of what's required. He's up against promising types such as Toro Strike and Oso Rapido but has plenty going for him.
Race 4: SUPAULETTE (2)
Trainer: Tim Easterby
Jockey: David Allan
Course and distance scorer
SUPAULETTE makes abundant appeal and can return to winning ways. She has maintained that level of form with two near misses since and her stable continues to go well. She looks nailed on to be in the shake-up and with luck in running can win.
Windsor Best Bets
Race 1: HEN (7) (Each Way)
Trainer: Jamie Osborne
Jockey: Nicola Currie
Rumour has it that
HEN is named after Henrietta Knight and I'm taking this horse to be your Best Mate and gain an overdue victory in this Class 6 handicap. The selection has twice troubled the judge on the Wolverhampton Tapeta and was taken out of a race last week. She should enjoy the switch to the grass.
Race 6: MEDIEVAL (5)
Trainer: Paul Cole
Jockey: Raul Da Silva
From a handicapping perspective,
MEDIEVAL finds himself on a workable mark and is overdue a return to the winner's circle. The 5yo has improved from race to race this season, and might not have been helped by a sedate pace when third to Laieth at Newmarket last month.
Wolverhampton Best Bet
Race 5: STREET POET (9) (Nap)
Trainer: Michael Herrington
Jockey: Oisin Murphy
Arguably unlucky not to have his last two starts here,
STREET POET can gain a deserved success with Murphy an eye-catching booking for him. Two runs back he was heavily backed on the show, traveled beautifully but was nailed in the last few strides, while last time he was hampered when denied a gap and when he finally got through it was too late to catch Little Miss Daisy.
