Durban – As the KwaZulu-Natal’s east coast basks in the mid-summer weather, the action at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium is set to sizzle with a jam-packed schedule of both local and international cricket on the cards this February and March.
The action kicks off with the start of the Momentum One Day Cup this weekend as the Hollywoodbets Dolphins host the VKB Knights in their competition opener on Saturday morning to whet the appetites of the fans waiting for the touring England team to arrive.
The 7th of February will see the Standard Bank Proteas and world champions England lock horns at Kingsmead Stadium in the second of three Momentum One Day Internationals as the Proteas look to bounce back from their test series loss.
Durban and Kingsmead have always proven to be popular stops for English travelling supporters and following their exploits at the World Cup last year expect the fans and the Barmy Army to follow their side with passion.
Kingsmead has become somewhat of a fortress for the Proteas in 50 over cricket with seven wins in their previous eight games at the venue, one of which included the second-highest successful run chase in limited-overs cricket against Australia in 2016.
Local stars David Miller and Andile Phehlukwayo were instrumental in that victory and will be back in the green and gold on home turf again as they tackle Eoin Morgan and his team in what should be an exciting showdown.
The Proteas will return to Kingsmead a week later to face the same enemy, however this time it will be in a KFC T20 International.
Local fans will be in for a feast of international cricket over the next two weeks.
CEO of KZN Cricket Heinrich Strydom says the stadium is geared up to provide a memorable experience for spectators following a busy off-season of upgrades and refurbishments around the iconic cricketing arena.
“We have spent a lot of time recently upgrading areas of the stadium that will significantly improve the overall experience for the fans,” Strydom said.
“There have been major upgrades to the food courts in the northe ast corner of the ground and Castle Corner as well as the introduction of a brand new viewing deck in the South Stand to offer a whole new perspective on the game.
“The upgrades to the stadium are exciting and we hope that the KZN cricket fans will join us in enjoying the new facilities at the stadium on Saturday ahead of the Proteas match against England next week.”
Tickets to both the Momentum One Day Cup and the two international matches are available at www.ticketpros.co.za.
