Our football scribe previews round eleven of the 2018 CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers.
For the last time this year International football will take centre stage before the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) kicks off in January. A preview of the 2018 CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers could just be what we need as we take a small break away from our beloved club football.
With 10 rounds of the South American qualifiers done and dusted, we can assess and analyse the teams making the best progress. Brazil are top of the table but play host to fierce rivals Argentina, in what is undoubtedly the blockbuster of the round. We have five cracking contests to preview, so let’s get to it!
THURSDAY 10 NOVEMBER
Colombia 19/20 | Draw 49/20 | Chile 11/4
We kick-start matchday 11 with a tasty looking encounter between Colombia and Chile. A hostile atmosphere is expected when the teams lock horns on Thursday evening with the last six meetings producing a total of five red cards.
Neither team have played to the best of their ability but Colombia have been strong on home soil, bagging three victories from five matches. Copa America champions Chile, on the other hand, have lost back-to-back travels, scoring just once and conceding five times.
This one will certainly go down to the wire.
As stated above, a cagey affair is expected and Both Teams To Score looks the safest bet to take at 8/10.
FRIDAY 11 NOVEMBER
Uruguay 6/10 | Draw 26/10 | Ecuador 9/2
While most will be sleeping, second placed Uruguay will square off against third-placed Ecuador. Uruguay have been immaculate on their ground, winning all five home games, scoring 13 goals without conceding.
Ecuador made the best possible start to the CONMEBOL qualifiers, winning their first four matches on the trot. Since then, however, Los Amarillos have struggled to maintain winning form. Their record away to Uruguay doesn’t bode too well either as they are unbeaten in the last six travels, suffering four defeats.
La Celeste are tipped for the win but I do feel Ecuador will be the first team to score a goal this campaign in Uruguay.

Venezuela 6/10 | Draw 3/1 | Bolivia 17/4
Next up Venezuela and Bolivia will go toe-to-toe in a bottom of the table clash. The hosts remain the only team yet to claim a victory, going down eight times, scoring just nine goals and conceding 26 times in the process.
Bolivia are off the back of a hard-fought and well-deserved 2-2 draw at home against Ecuador and will be eager to build on that with a victory and I cannot see how Venezuela are priced up at 6/10 given their winless run in the competition.
In the last 15 meetings between these sides, 11 have seen both teams find the back of the net, producing a total of 56 goals at an average of 3.73 per game.
Get on the Additional Totals – Over 3.5 Goals at a hefty 33/20.
Paraguay 15/20 | Draw 49/20 | Peru 37/10
In my eyes, this will most likely be the least entertaining affair, but still, it will be worth a look to find out just where the value can be found in this qualifier.
Paraguay staged the upset of the round in gameweek 10, grinding out a hard-earned 1-0 victory away to South American giants Argentina. Peru have travelled dismally, losing all five matches on the road, scoring just once and conceding 10 times.
Nonetheless, I still feel Peru will push Paraguay all the way.
Looking at the head-to-head record between the sides, eight of the last 10 meetings have seen Under 2.5 Goals, and I would suggest following the trend at 6/10.
Brazil 21/20 | Draw 9/4 | Argentina 26/10
Last but not least South American heavyweights Brazil and Argentina will reignite their rivalry with what promises to be a scintillating contest. Form usually goes out the door when these two go at it and I expect no different here.
If we do turn to the form guide, however, Brazil have won four consecutive matches, 12 goals and conceding only once. The Argentines are without a win in three, including a disappointing and humiliating 1-0 defeat in front of their besotted fans at the hands of Paraguay last time out.
Log-leaders Brazil will be eager to distance themselves from the rest with a victory, whilst fifth place Argentina will be desperate to close the gap to just two points.
Nonetheless, Pentacampeoes have won nine of the last 10 meetings at home against Argentina and are tipped to add to that.
