Our English Premier League scribe previews matchday 14 of the 2016/17 season.
Gameweek 14 of the Premier League starts with a cracking encounter between Manchester City and Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. There are other exciting matches to look forward to and lots of money to be made. I’m very confident about my picks so make sure you follow.
Saturday 3 December
11/10 Manchester City | Draw 5/2 | Chelsea 47/20
Title contenders Manchester City and Chelsea will lock horns at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday in what looks a mouth-watering encounter. These sides are joint-favourites for the title at 2/1 at Hollywoodbets. Chelsea are on a run of seven straight league victories and have surged to the top of the table, while City sit just a single point back in third.
Chelsea are in top form with seven wins on the spin, scoring 19 goals and conceding once. Meanwhile, Manchester City have drawn their last three home games while they’ve kept just one clean sheet at the Etihad from six games.
I’m backing Chelsea on the win/draw Double Chance at 7/10.

9/4 Crystal Palace | Draw 9/4 | Southampton 5/4
Crystal Palace continued to disappoint as they suffered a dramatic 5-4 loss at fellow strugglers Swansea. The Eagles have now lost six league games on the bounce and sit 17th in the Premier League, level on points with Hull, who are in the drop zone. Alan Pardew's side have gone 18 top-flight games without a clean sheet, longer than any other current side.
Their opponents, Southampton, come into this fixture off a 1-0 win at home to Everton, courtesy of Charlie Austin's 41st second goal. The Saints will be hoping to make it two wins in a row as they look to move higher up the table.
They’ve won five of their last six Premier League meetings against Palace and they’re tipped to pile further misery on the Eagles by coming away with maximum points.
13/20 Stoke City | Draw 28/10 | Burnley 17/4
An own-goal from Heurelho Gomes got Stoke back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory away to Watford. The Potters moved above Bournemouth into 11th spot with their first win over a side not in the bottom three. They played well, Bruno Martins Indi and Xherdan Shaqiri especially, though Mark Hughes will be particularly gratified by the performance of Giannelli Imbula, who was excellent in central-midfield.
Stoke will be hoping to build on that result when they take on 13th-placed Burnley. The Clarets come into the match off back-to-back losses against West Brom and Manchester City. They’re yet to win away from home with four losses from five games, shipping 13 goals while scoring just once.
Back the home win at 13/20.
21/10 Sunderland | Draw 23/10 | Leicester City 13/10
Bottom-of-the-log Sunderland suffered their ninth defeat of the season, losing 2-0 away to Liverpool. Prior to that loss, the Black Cats had won back-to-back games against Bournemouth and Hull City. David Moyes’ side will be looking to bounce back with a win against Leicester City in their bid to avoid the drop.
The Foxes are just two points above the relegation zone after their 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough, salvaged by a last-gasp Islam Slimani penalty. Claudio Ranieri’s side have made the worst start to a title defence in Premier League history with just 13 points from 13 games. They’re winless in four matches with two defeats, while they are yet to win on the road – losing five out of six games.
I’m going for Sunderland on the win/draw Double Chance at 13/20.
7/20 Tottenham | Draw 17/4 | Swansea City 15/2
Tottenham’s unbeaten streak in the league came to an end as they were beaten 2-1 by in-form Chelsea. Spurs have picked up just one win in their last 10 matches across all competitions and Mauricio Pochettino has a lot of work to do to turn around Spurs' dip in form. Pochettino will welcome back Danny Rose from suspension, while he’ll be hoping to have Erik Lamela and Toby Alderweireld available for this weekend.
Swansea City claimed an extraordinary 5-4 win over struggling Crystal Palace, lifting them off the bottom of the standings. That was Bob Bradley’s first win in the sixth game of his reign and Swansea’s first in 11 matches in the Premier League. They remain winless in their last five travels, suffering four defeats. Spurs are unbeaten against Swansea in their last 11 meetings with nine wins.
The home win is tipped confidently.
23/20 West Brom | Draw 23/10 | Watford 24/10
West Brom will be disappointed to have let a lead slip in their 1-1 draw with Hull City at the KC Stadium. It was an opportunity for the Baggies to record three straight Premier League wins for the first time since November 2012, but they were too sloppy with their passing and decision-making in the final third. Tony Pulis will be hoping for an improved performance from his players against Watford.
Walter Mazzarri’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Stoke, courtesy of an own-goal from Heurelho Gomes. The Hornets have shown resilience in the way of bouncing back from disappointing displays, and they will have to show that once again. However, Jose Holebas, Younes Kaboul and Isaac Success are injury doubts, while Miguel Britos and Valon Behrami are suspended.
I’m backing the home win at 23/20.
32/10 West Ham | Draw 28/10 | Arsenal 15/20
West Ham produced a disciplined display to draw 1-1 with Manchester United last Sunday. Diafra Sakho scored in only the second minute and although Zlatan Ibrahimovic equalised 19 minutes later, Slaven Bilic did well in organising the team defensively. The Hammers will be hoping to frustrate Arsenal in the same way they did United, but they’ll need a near-perfect performance if they are to get a result.
Arsene Wenger’s side secured a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth thanks to a brace from Alexis Sanchez, extending their unbeaten run to 19 matches in all competitions and ensuring they end their usual barren November run with a win. The Gunners have been superb away from home, with four wins and two draws from six games, scoring 13 goals and conceding four. Wenger’s side have a remarkable record against their London rivals, winning 13 of their last 17 meetings – losing just once.
The visitors are tipped to come away with maximum points.
Sunday 4 December
7/2 Bournemouth | Draw 29/10 | Liverpool 7/10
Bournemouth dropped to 12th in the league following their 3-1 defeat away to Arsenal last Sunday. The Cherries have picked up just one win in their last five matches, while they’re winless in their last two games at the Vitality Stadium. Eddie Howe will be happy to have Jack Wilshere back in the starting lineup against Liverpool after he was ineligible to play against his parent club.
Jurgen Klopp's side secured a 2-0 win over Sunderland thanks to second-half goals from Divock Origi and James Milner. The big downside for Klopp was the sight of Philippe Coutinho going off on a stretcher before half-time. Reports say the Brazilian could miss the remainder of 2016 which will be a huge blow, especially as Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino are both injury doubts. The Reds are riding a 14-game unbeaten streak – 11 wins – across all competitions.
I’m going for a Liverpool Win & Both Teams to Score at 29/20.
24/10 Everton | Draw 23/10 | Manchester United 23/20
Ronald Koeman suffered defeat on his return to Southampton as the Saints comfortably outplayed Everton to secure a deserved 1-0 victory. The Toffees have won only one of their last nine matches, further highlighting the improvements required and threatening to undermine their fine start to the season. Koeman’s side have looked better at Goodison Park, with three wins and three draws from six games and they’ll be hoping to keep their unbeaten home record intact.
Manchester United were held by West Ham to a 1-1 draw that saw Jose Mourinho sent to the stands. United have picked up just 20 points from their opening 13 games – their worst start since the 1990/91 campaign after 13 games. Stranded at 6th position and 11 points off league leaders Chelsea, they need to put together a winning run if they are to finish in the top four, let alone challenge for the title. Mourinho's successful record proves he will turn things around, but it needs to happen quickly.
United are tipped on the win/draw Double Chance at 3/10.
Monday 5 December
15/20 Middlesbrough | Draw 5/2 | Hull City 15/4
Middlesbrough were seconds away from a hugely impressive victory at the King Power Stadium as Leicester were awarded a second controversial penalty and Islam Slimani stepped up to snatch a late point in a 2-2 draw. Aitor Karanka’s side played the champions off the park at times and will know they deserved three points instead of one. The performance of Alvaro Negredo was hugely encouraging, with the Spaniard demonstrating his lethal finishing ability.
Boro will hopeful of securing their third win of the season against 18th-placed Hull on Monday night. Mike Phelan’s side come off a 1-1 draw at home to West Brom, and their away from doesn’t bode well for their chances. The Tigers are winless in five travels with four straight defeats, shipping 16 goals in that run.
The home win is the way to go.
TREBLE @ 5/1
Arsenal Win 15/20
West Brom Win 23/20
Stoke Win 13/20
