Our football analyst gives predictions on the Spanish La Liga week seven games which kick off on Friday 29 September 2017.
We’re into week seven of the Spanish La Liga and things are not looking good for the champions. Real Madrid got back to winning ways, but still find themselves seven points adrift of high-flying Barcelona, who have won all six of their matches to sit comfortably on 18 points.
The Catalan giants cannot be caught this week, with Atletico Madrid in second place on 14 points. Sevilla and Valencia complete the top four, with Alaves rooted to the bottom of the pile, being the only team yet to pick up a point this season.
Friday 29 September
Celta Vigo 15/20 | Draw 26/10 | Girona 37/10
Celta Vigo picked up one of the biggest results last weekend, beating Eibar 4-0 away from home. Girona, on the other hand, were on the receiving end of a 3-0 defeat at home to Barcelona. Girona are still in search of their first away win of the season, and sit just above the relegation places.
Celta have been blowing hot and cold so far, but against a dismal Girona side, you get the feeling that they should continue their impressive form.
Get on the home win and include in all multiples!
Saturday 30 September
Deportivo 23/20 | Draw 47/20 | Getafe 47/20
Deportivo suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat at Espanyol to remain in the relegation zone with just four points. They’ll be looking to make home advantage count when they host Getafe this weekend, who pulled off the biggest shock, smashing Villarreal 4-0 at home.
El Geta moved up into the top half of the table, but should brace themselves for a tough run of fixtures coming up. Getafe are undefeated away from home and form suggests that they could get something from the game.
Back them on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 13/20.
Sevilla 7/20 | Draw 17/4 | Malaga 15/2
Sevilla’s brilliant start to the campaign ended after suffering their first defeat last weekend – a 2-0 loss at Atletico Madrid. Still, Los Rojiblancos could leave the field with their heads held high, after dominating possession and having quite a bit of attempts at goal.
They’ll return to their famous fortress, the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, where they host a Malaga side, who picked up their first point last weekend. They’re still in the red zone, and have failed to find the net in any of their three away defeats this season.
The home win is a banker at 7/20.
Levante 15/20 | Draw 51/20 | Alaves 38/10
Levante were on the losing side for the first time this season as they were battered 4-0 away to Real Betis on Monday night. The Frogs crumbled in the second half, with Betis looking like they were going to score every time they attacked.
Alaves are the division’s worse team at the moment, losing all six of their matches played so far. Levante are undefeated at home so far, and this could be the perfect time to return to winning ways.
Get on another home win here!
Leganes 6/1 | Draw 11/4 | Atletico Madrid 11/20
After a run of three games without a victory, Leganes returned to winning ways, beating Las Palmas 2-0 away from home. They’ll be hoping for the same sort of result as last season, when they held Atletico Madrid to a goalless draw.
However, Diego Simeone’s men look a different breed at the moment, and are proving to be real contenders for the league. They’re on a three-game winning streak and should keep that up.
There’s some decent value on the away win, and certainly one of my favourites for the weekend.
Sunday 1 October
Real Sociedad 17/20 | Draw 26/10 | Real Betis 29/10
After a spectacular start to the campaign, winning their first three matches, Real Sociedad find themselves in a terrible ditch, now on a three-game losing streak in La Liga. In the six matches played, they’ve scored 13 and conceded 13, so that sort of highlights what to expect from them this season. They’ve got a decent attack, but their defence has let them down too often this term.
Real Betis have been one of the early surprise packages in the league this year. Quique Setien’s men have won three consecutive matches – one of those victories being a famous 1-0 win at Real Madrid. Their away form hasn’t been too eye-catching, losing two of their three games.
I’m expecting reality to kick in, with Sociedad tipped to win here at 17/20.
Barcelona 1/14 | Draw 10/1 | Las Palmas 23/1
High-flying Barcelona will look to claim their seventh successive victory this season when they host an off-form Las Palmas side. Barca cannot be caught at the top, leading the standings by four points. Ernesto Valverde has got the best out of the team and I wouldn’t rule out an “invincible season”.
Las Palmas are on a two-game losing streak, and against the league’s best, it could only get worse.
As expected, Barca are priced up too short, so I would suggest back Over 4.5 Goals at 8/10.
Valencia 17/20 | Draw 26/10 | Athletic Bilbao 31/10
Valencia have been superb so far in the campaign, being one of three teams yet to lose a match. The Bats have been flying high, especially at home where they have won two of their three encounters, and are yet to concede.
Athletic Bilbao have been disappointing this season. They’re winless in three games and let their two-goal lead slip against 10-man Malaga last weekend. Valencia hitman, Simone Zaza, who I have been guilty of criticising in the past, is slowly proving his doubters wrong.
I quite like him as an Anytime Goalscorer in this match, but play it safe and get on the home win!
Villarreal 17/20 | Draw 51/20 | Eibar 33/10
Villarreal suffered the biggest shock defeat of gameweek six, losing 4-0 away to Getafe. That ended their unbeaten run of three matches, and led to the sacking of head coach Fran Escriba. They’ve put their trust in former football player, Javi Calleja, who will hope to rise the sinking Yellow Submarine.
Eibar fell to their second loss on the trot, also a 4-0 dismantling, going down to Celta Vigo at home. Before that, they conceded six goals against Barcelona. That’s 10 in two games.
I’m expecting Calleja to come good in his first La Liga game for Villarreal; get on at 17/20!
Real Madrid 1/10 | Draw 17/2 | Espanyol 17/1
Real Madrid will be hoping for their first home victory for the campaign when they host Espanyol in the final game of the round. They’ve lost one and drawn two of their three matches played at the Santiago Bernabeu.
They now face an Espanyol side who will be high on confidence, who beat Deportivo 4-1 to make it three games without defeat. Their defence has been really shaky, while their frontline haven’t been too convincing. This will be Cristiano Ronaldo’s second home match since his return, so no excuses will be accepted by the fans.
Back Madrid to Win & Both Teams to Score at 17/20.
QUAD @ 6/1
Celta Vigo Win 15/20
Sevilla Win 7/20
Atletico Madrid Win 11/20
Valencia Win 17/20
