We preview gameweek 25 of the English Premier League which is set to get underway on Tuesday 30 January.
Gameweek 25 of the Premier League will be played in midweek with three fixtures on Tuesday and seven on Wednesday. It promises to be an exciting week with the January transfer window coming to an end.
* Please note that this article was written prior to the EFL Cup semi-finals and the FA Cup fourth round fixtures.
Tuesday 30 January
Swansea 52/10 | Draw 32/10 | Arsenal 5/10
Swansea will be high on confidence after pulling off a shocking 1-0 victory over Liverpool on Monday. Carlos Carvalhal’s men will be hoping to cause another upset against Arsenal in their bid to avoid relegation. The Swans are bottom of the table on 20 points, three points behind 17th-placed Stoke.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan will make his debut for Arsenal as Arsene Wenger’s side look to build on their thumping 4-1 home win over Crystal Palace.
The Gunners have won their last three meetings against the Swans and I fancy them to come away with maximum points.
West Ham 29/20 | Draw 43/20 | Crystal Palace 39/20
West Ham are unbeaten in their last five Premier League matches, however, they’ve won just twice in that run. David Moyes’ side had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Bournemouth last weekend and will be hoping to get back to winning ways.
Crystal Palace failed to build on their impressive form as they were thumped 4-1 away to Arsenal. Prior to that heavy loss, Roy Hodgson’s side had beaten Southampton and Burnley, before drawing 0-0 at home to Manchester City to deny Pep Guardiola's side a 19th successive Premier League win.
These sides played to a 2-2 draw at Selhurst Park in October and I’m backing another stalemate.
Huddersfield 8/1 | Draw 4/1 | Liverpool 7/20
Huddersfield suffered their third straight defeat after losing 2-0 against relegation rivals Stoke at the bet365 Stadium last weekend. The result also saw David Wagner’s side go winless in six Premier League games.
A week after inflicting Manchester City's first league defeat, Liverpool lost at last-place Swansea 1-0 on Monday and ended their 18-match unbeaten run in all competitions. Jurgen Klopp's side will be looking to bounce back strongly as they aim to stay in the top four.
The Reds beat the Terriers 3-0 in the reverse tie and are tipped to claim all three points.
Wednesday 31 January
Chelsea 1/4 | Draw 47/10 | Bournemouth 9/1
Antonio Conte’s men surged back to winning ways with a comprehensive 4-0 win away to Brighton last weekend with Eden Hazard putting in a man-of-the-match display. It was arguably Chelsea’s best performance of the season so far, despite being without Alvaro Morata and Pedro due to suspension and missing Thibaut Courtois, Gary Cahill, Cesc Fabregas and Danny Drinkwater through injury – even new signing Ross Barkley wasn’t needed.
Bournemouth managed to earn a point at West Ham last weekend, but they’re winless in their last eight travels. The Blues have already met the Cherries twice this season, winning 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium in October and then 2-1 at Stamford Bridge last month in the Carabao Cup.
Take Chelsea on the (-1) Handicap at 7/10.
Everton 2/1 | Draw 43/20 | Leicester City 14/10
Everton played to a 1-1 draw at home to West Brom last weekend with new signing Theo Walcott assisting Oumar Niasse for the equalizing goal. Sam Allardyce's men currently sit ninth in the Premier League standings, but are at serious risk of being dragged back down to the bottom half of the table and back into a relegation fight. The Toffees have gone seven matches without a win in all competitions, losing four times.
Leicester City are unbeaten in their last three league games. The Foxes recorded home wins over Huddersfield and Watford and fought out a well-deserved 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The away win is well worth a punt at 14/10.
Newcastle 23/20 | Draw 2/1 | Burnley 26/10
Newcastle are 15th in the Premier League table, but are only a point above 18th-placed Southampton. Rafael Benitez’s side have won just once in their last five matches with two draws and two defeats, although both losses were against Manchester City. The Magpies have failed to win at St. James' Park in their last seven matches, losing five times.
Burnley were overtaken by Leicester for seventh in the table after going down 1-0 at home to Manchester United. It was their third straight league defeat which extended their winless run to seven matches.
Sean Dyche’s men beat Newcastle 1-0 at Turf Moor in October and I’m backing them on the Win/Draw at 13/20.
Southampton 7/10 | Draw 5/2 | Brighton 9/2
Southampton are without a win in 11 games, the longest drought of any team currently in the division, and sit 18th in the table. The Saints earned a well-deserved 1-1 draw at home to Tottenham last weekend. It was a morale-boosting point gained in the battle against relegation and in particular for their manager Mauricio Pellegrino, who has led the team to just four league wins all season.
Brighton’s winless run in the Premier League stretched to five matches as they were thrashed 4-0 at home by a rampant Chelsea side. The Seagulls have lost five of their last six matches on the road, failing to score in all.
I’m backing Southampton to claim all three points.
Stoke City 5/4 | Draw 47/20 | Watford 43/20
Paul Lambert enjoyed the perfect start to life at Stoke as second-half goals from Joe Allen and Mame Biram Diouf secured a vital 2-0 win over Huddersfield at the bet365 Stadium – a result which lifted them out of the bottom three. Lambert would have been very pleased with that performance and will look to guide his side to another victory.
New Watford boss Javi Gracia will be hoping for a dream start in the Premier League. The Hornets have won just once in their last 11 league games and are 10th in the table, four points above relegation after losing 2-0 at Leicester.
A tight affair is expected, but I’m backing Stoke to grind out a win.
Manchester City 1/7 | Draw 7/1 | West Brom 17/1
Runaway leaders Manchester City comfortably beat Newcastle 3-1 last weekend thanks to a hat-trick from Sergio Aguero. The Citizens thoroughly outclassed the Magpies from start to finish, enjoying an incredible 80% possession as they dominated their relegation threatened opponents. Pep Guardiola's side are unbeaten at home this season, winning 11 of their 12 matches, scoring 42 goals while conceding nine.
West Brom are winless in their last 11 away games, losing seven times. City have won their last 13 meetings against the Baggies and I’m backing them to win comfortably.
Take City on the (-1) Handicap at 4/10.
Tottenham 23/20 | Draw 9/4 | Manchester United 51/20
