Round 5 of the 2018/19 French Top 14 season will get underway on Saturday the 22nd of September.
The Top 14 enters its fifth round this week with only Clermont remaining unbeaten. It may be early in the season but Clermont look near on unstoppable. They'll get proceedings underway this coming weekend when they take on the Bordeaux Begles.
Other notable clashes see La Rochelle take on Lyon and Racing square off with reigning champions, Castres.

Bordeaux are next up to take on 2018/19 Top 14 juggernauts, Clermont. The visitors head into this one off the back of four consecutive victories with their last win being a hard-fought 23-27 away victory over Pau.
Bordeaux also head into this one off the back of a much more disappointing result as they went down 22-17 to relegation candidates Agen. This was Bordeaux's second loss of the season with their only victory being a Round 1 win over Pau.
Verdict: Clermont 19/20
They are a class above this season and I can't see Bordeaux keeping up with them. My money is on Clermont taking this one by 11 points or more.

Next up is a clash between promoted duo Grenoble and Perpignan. Both sides have struggled in the top tier thus far with the hosts currently sitting 13th on the table with two points to their names while the visitors are a further point back in last place.
Both teams head into this one off the back of defeats in excess of 15 points with Grenoble going down 29-13 to Castres and Perpignan going down 37-10 away to La Rochelle.
Verdict: Grenoble 1/2 * forecast odds
This is a tough one to call with both sides really struggling at the moment. I will personally be avoiding this game but if you must have a punt, I recommend backing the hosts.

Lyon will be looking to build on their mammoth 55-13 win over Montpellier when they take on La Rochelle this Saturday. The hosts managed to get the third win of their campaign under their belts after they beat minnows Perpignan 37-10 last Sunday.
When these two sides met at the Stade Marcel Deflandre last season the game ended 19-15 in favour of the hosts. They will have a tough time repeating the dose, however, as Lyon are in great touch.

I backed them last week and it proved mightily profitable. I will be backing Lyon once again.

Toulon will be looking to bounce back from their third defeat of the season when they play hosts to ninth-placed Agen. The hosts saw their season slumped to another low as they went down 37-10 to Stade Francais in the final Round 4 fixture.
Agen had a much better time of it last weekend as they beat the Bordeaux Begles 22-17. The result will give them a massive amount of confidence heading into their clash with faltering Toulon.

I have been really unimpressed with Toulon. They look a side devoid of ideas and I can see them struggling against a plucky Agen outfit. A small strike on the away team is my play for this one.

Pau have managed to win two of their opening four games while Stade have won three of their opening four. The last time these two sides met was back in January where Pau won 5-40. This is a massively improved Stade side, though.

Stade have really come out the blocks firing. And while I can't see them winning by as comfortable a margin this weekend, I can see them claiming a victory here.

Montpellier will be looking to arrest their horrid run of form when they take on a solid Toulouse side this Sunday. The hosts have got their campaign off to dreadful start losing three of their four opening games. They head into this clash off a monumentally embarrassing defeat which saw them go down 55-13 to Lyon.
Toulouse have enjoyed a much better start to the season having won three of their first four fixtures. They head into this one off a very impressive 30-17 victory over Racing Metro.
Verdict: Montpellier 41/10 * forecast odds
They rested a lot f big guns last week and it showed. They're likely to be a lot stronger this weekend and I can see them garnering a much-needed win at home.
