The 2018/19 German Bundesliga season continues on Friday the 21st of September 2018. Check out our in-house tipster's picks for round four.
Bayern Munich make it look easy as the Bavarians are the only team remaining with a 100% win-record. Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen – two title-contenders – have been absolutely appalling with three consecutive defeats apiece. As you can see, we will likely be in for a roller-coaster of a season. Let’s get to round four’s matchups.
Friday 21 September
Stuttgart 13/20 | Draw 29/10 | Dusseldorf 4/1
Stuttgart have made a terrible start to the new campaign and remain winless after three matches with two defeats. However, they were fearless, creative and goal-driven last time out at Freiburg despite only leaving with a share of the spoils as the sides played to a 3-3 draw.
Newcomers, Dusseldorf, earned their first league win last time out with a 2-1 home win over UEFA Champions League hopefuls Hoffenheim. They have the ability to score goals and showed that quality off in pre-season. Take Both Teams to Score – Yes – at 15/20.
Saturday 22 September
Wolfsburg 7/10 | Draw 11/4 | Freiburg 38/10
Wolfsburg remain unbeaten with two wins and a draw after playing to a 2-2 stalemate at home against Hertha Berlin last weekend. Freiburg are yet to win a match but made a lot of improvement with a 3-3 home draw against Stuttgart.
The Wolves pulled off the double against Freiburg last season and look good value to build on that. The home win is on the cards.
Hoffenheim 16/10 | Draw 26/10 | Borussia Dortmund 15/10
Hoffenheim have lost both of their matches on the road but capitalized on home advantage last time around, seeing off Freiburg 3-1. Borussia Dortmund returned to winning ways last weekend with a 3-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.
This one can go either which way but I’m backing BVB’s form to carry them over Hoffenheim’s lack of consistency. The away team should be backed.
Hertha Berlin 16/10 | Draw 23/10 | Monchengladbach 17/10
Hertha Berlin made a bright start to the season with back-to-back wins before playing out to a hard-fought 2-2 draw away to Wolfsburg. Monchengladbach have been just as impressive but might find the going slightly tougher on the road.
However, the Borussians have won nine of the last 11 meetings against their opponents. With that being said, ‘Gladbach might be worth a small punt at 17/10!
Nurnberg 15/10 | Draw 23/10 | Hannover 18/10
Newly-promoted Nurnberg are winless after three matches, scoring just twice in the process. But consecutive 1-1 draws against Mainz and Werder Bremen last time out show that the Glorious can compete in the top flight. Hannover, like their opponents, are yet to win a match. They fought bravely last weekend despite going down 3-2 at Leipzig.
This might be a left field call but I’m expecting a low-scoring, cagey affair with the hosts tipped to utilize home advantage.
The Correct Score of 1-0 to Nurnberg offers plenty of value at 13/2 but for those who would prefer playing it safe, just back the home team.
Augsburg 14/10 | Draw 24/10 | Werder Bremen 37/20
Augsburg and Werder Bremen are both struggling to find a winning formula but in the same breath, they have both been finding the back of the net on a regular basis. The hosts were defeated 2-1 at Mainz last time out, while Werder Bremen were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Nurnberg.
The last nine meetings have produced 36 goals at an average of four per game. A goal fest looks likely, so get on the Totals – Over 2.5 Goals – market at 8/10.
Schalke 6/1 | Draw 36/10 | Bayern Munich 4/10
Schalke and Bayern Munich are on the opposite end of the form table. The Royal Blues have lost all three of their matches and are placed second from bottom of the table. The defending champions, on the other hand, are at the summit with three wins from three games.
However, the home side will be desperate to grind out a positive result and while I think that won’t happen, I do think they will be more solid defensively. Bayern have scored three goals in each of their three matches but I think Schalke can limit them to two goals. Take the Goals Away market with the log leaders to score twice at 21/10.
Sunday 23 September
Bayer Leverkusen 11/20 | Draw 32/10 | Mainz 9/2
Basement-dwellers Bayer Leverkusen have been disastrous with three straight defeats, scoring just twice and conceding eight times. Mainz are unbeaten with two wins from three games but keep in mind, they only managed two wins from 17 travels last term, scoring 16 times.
I don’t trust the hosts enough to back them at 11/20. I’d rather get on the Both Teams to Score – Yes – at 7/10.
Eintracht Frankfurt 2/1 | Draw 49/20 | Leipzig 13/10
Eintracht Frankfurt started the season with an impressive 2-0 win at Freiburg but since then, they have suffered consecutive defeats. Leipzig earned their league win last weekend with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Hannover.
The Red Bulls will need to be much more solid if they are to make it back-to-back wins. Frankfurt have home advantage and will be much more organized than they have been in previous weeks. The sides are tipped to cancel each other out.
