A second five wicket haul of the season for Senuran Muthusamy on Wednesday helped the Hollywoodbets Dolphins into a strong position with 199 runs, and 10 second innings wickets, left to win their 4-Day Franchise Series match against the Warriors at Kingsmead.
Muthusamy finished the innings with figures of 6/98 as the Warriors finished their second innings on 376 late on day three.
"There was a lot of toil out there and we just had to stick to our plans throughout the day," Muthusamy said.
"We worked hard to try and control the run rate but I think that they did bat really well and showed good application.
"It is still a great wicket and the bowlers have had to be very patient and let's hope that we can play more good cricket tomorrow to chase the 217 to win."
The Warriors started the day 82/1, trailing the Dolphins by 78 runs and a battle of attrition ensued with the Dolphins drawing first blood when Gihahn Cloete was caught behind for 54 off Rob Frylinck.
A partnership between centurion Colin Ackermann and Yaseen Vallie was worth just short of 100 before the former became Muthusamy's first victim for exactly 100.
Vallie and Sinethemba Qeshile fell five runs later, Vallie for 39 and Qeshile for a duck. Both were victims of Muthusamy, and both out in the same fashion - caught by Dane Vilas.
The Dolphins bowlers then had to work hard through the early afternoon with Clyde Fortuin and Simon Harmer scoring 66 and 28 runs respectively. Harmer then fell to Muthusamy with the score on 273/7, caught by Sarel Erwee in the slips.
Sisanda Magala scored 51 down the order for the visitors, while Anrich Nortje was the last wicket for the Warriors, bowled by Muthusamy for 13.
The Dolphins had six overs to deal with on a beautiful evening at Kingsmead and they got through unscathed.
Sarel Erwee begins day four 16 not out while first innings centurion Vaughn van Jaarsveld resumes his innings on two.
The Dolphins require 199 runs to win on the final day.
