The table-topping Hollywoodbets Dolphins return to Kingsmead Cricket Stadium on Tuesday for a meeting with shared Momentum One Day Cup champions the Warriors, looking to make it four wins from four in the limited overs campaign.
The Durban side occupy the top spot on the log after three good wins to start the tournament against the Lions, the Titans and most recently, the Cobras.
Amongst the Dolphins players have been a handful of Proteas stars and they have been hugely influential so far in the campaign. With a one day series against Sri Lanka looming, coach Grant Morgan will still have his international stars in the mix for Tuesday’s clash.
“We have got our plan sorted out because we know who is going to be coming and going at any given time,” Morgan said.
“Having a guy like Robbie (Frylinck) out injured gives a guy like Calvin (Savage) a chance to get himself into the tournament.
“We won’t necessarily make any changes but if it is a horses-for-courses requirement we will do that but we feel we are covered well at the moment.”
An intriguing relationship has developed between the Dolphins and the Warriors in recent years with the Eastern Cape side often proving to be a thorn in the side of the Dolphins. Getting one over them early in the competition will be a good way to set the tone going into the second half of the campaign.
“They have beaten us quite a bit, we have beaten them too make no mistake but we want to put our record against them right.
“The Warriors have got a clean slate against us this season so now is the perfect time and opportunity to put that to bed.
“There are only two unbeaten sides left in this competition and we want to be the side that wakes up on Wednesday still unbeaten,” Morgan emphasised.
Being in a strong position going into a run of four home games gives the Dolphins an opportunity to cement that spot on top of the log, however Morgan is wary that his side needs to improve their record at home.
“We need to start making this home ground advantage count in our favour.
“I am glad that we won in Pietermaritzburg for the first time (In the 50 over competition)
since I have been coach which hopefully will be a catalyst for us performing well at home.
“We want to win in front of our own crowd and this is the time now,” he reiterated.
The match at Kingsmead starts at 13:30.
