Our football pundit previews the AFCON clash between Guinea and Madagascar which takes place on Saturday 22 June 2019.
The second Group B fixture of Saturday certainly looks a bigger mismatch than the first fixture. Guinea head into the encounter as heavy favourites against a Madagascar side who are probably just happy to be participating in the tournament for the first time. It’ll take a herculean effort for the Islanders to come away with anything against Guinea or Nigeria but might fancy their chances against Burundi.

Guinea 6/10

Madagascar 5/1
Guinea
Guinea certainly head into this fixture as massive favourites and will be dead keen to lay down a marker nice and early in the tournament. The big news in the camp in the lead up to the tournament has been around the inclusion of Naby Keita. The Liverpool midfielder has been carrying an injury and won’t be available for the fixture, with coach Paul Put having to force the Merseyside club to release the star for the tournament.
The majority of the squad ply their trade in the top two divisions of French football with a light sprinkling of Bundesliga stars. English Premier League fans might be familiar with Fulham’s Ibrahima CissĂ© who played three times for the Cottagers in last season’s English Premier League campaign. The midfielder certainly plays a more central role for the national team than he does in England, and will be key in breaking up opposition play.
Pirates fans might also be familiar with Abdoulaye Camara and Moussa Camara both of whom played against the Buccaneers in the CAF Champions League last season.
Madagascar
Madagascar are an exceedingly difficult team to preview extensively with majority of their players plying their trade in the domestic league with a couple playing in the lower divisions in France. As such, there really isn’t much information available on them.
The one guy that South African fans will be familiar with is Andriamiraldo Aro Hasina Andrianarimanana. “Dax” as he’s known, wasn’t able to make an initial impact for Kaizer Chiefs due to work permit issues, but started to feature more prominently in the second half of the campaign. The 28-year-old definitely was one of the brighter sparks in an otherwise dour season for the Glamour Boys, and he’ll look to bring his club form into the international arena.
Verdict: Guinea to Score In Both Halves (18/10)
This could be one of the most one-sided fixtures in the tournament. Guinea have one of the most well-rounded squads in the competition and should brush Madagascar aside with minimal fuss. There are plenty of markets we can look into here, but I think we should play it safe and take Guinea to Score In Both Halves at 18/10. This is the perfect sweetener to add to those AFCON multiples.
