Akhona Ndungane is a former Springbok who played as a wing and centre. The 39-year-old spent the bulk of his career in Pretoria, where he played for the Bulls in the international Super Rugby competition. The former Springbok also played for the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup competition.

In 2005, he made his Super 12 debut for the Bulls against the Cats. The 39-year-old shares with us what other career he would’ve preferred if he wasn’t a professional rugby player.
“During my High School years, my parents would always tell us about the importance of education and how it will impact my future. It is with their teaching that I furthered my education post-matric and chose to study Quantity Surveying because I have always been a big fan of the construction industry. So, had I not been a professional rugby player, I would have been in the construction industry as I am currently,” said the former Bulls player.
“But one thing most people don’t know about me, is that I was a very good soccer player and I would’ve considered to play for my boys Kaizer Chiefs because I grew up supporting the Glamour boys. So had I not been a rugby player I would’ve chosen soccer or construction – those are the two things I would’ve chosen,” he added.
Akhona announced his retirement at the conclusion of the 2015 Super Rugby season, having made in excess of hundred appearances for the Bulls in Super Rugby and a similar amount in domestic rugby with the Blue Bulls, Border Bulldogs and Mighty Elephants.
Ndungane does not regret being a rugby player especially being a World Champion, winning the Super Rugby, and all other trophies.
