Racing this Wednesday sees a fantastic eight-race programme at Happy Valley Racecourse with a host of top quality racing on offer, the top bet and value bet, should be followed closely.
RACE 1
YEE CHEONG LUCKY last start is best ignored. He got crowded for room, came off the bridle and as a result could not be ridden out to the finish. If recapturing his prior form then he should go close to winning the opening contest. FLYING MONKEY finished third last time out at Alex Badel. He raced without cover on that occasion but still produced a decent finish on the outside of the track. If he can get some cover this time out then he should produce a better performance. LA BOMBA has been moderate in his last two outings but Zac Purton jumps aboard him for the first time and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
RACE 2
The German-bred FAITHFUL TRINITY has his third run after a rest and should be cherry-ripe. He has had two good runs after a layoff and brings some strong form into the race. He is the likely frontrunner and if getting across from his wide barrier then he may be difficult to peg back in the closing stages of this contest. DAILY BEAUTY was right up there in his comeback effort. He was only beaten 2.25L at the wire that day and from his inside barrier he should be able to pose a threat to the top selection. LADY FIRST is still winless but he has gone close on a number of occasions in this class. He will benefit from a 4.5kgs apprentice claim and can run into the money.
RACE 3
SMILING CITY wasn’t disgraced in his comeback effort when beaten 3L by Lightning Steed. He will come on nicely with that run under the belt and with the expected natural improvement he should be right there in a very competitive third race. BLASTOISE returns from a break today which may have done him the world of good. He is much better than his last two starts suggest and if recapturing his prior form then he can find a swift return to form in this contest. Also, he will benefit from 4.5kgs apprentice Jerry Chau in the saddle. FLYING SWORD is in good form and the combination Tony Cruz/Matthew Chadwick have picked up two wins together recently.
RACE 4
ARES is the best bet on the card. He hasn’t been since his last fair effort in May. He experienced no luck in running that day and despite getting bumped on three occasions in the running, the manner in which he finished off his race was encouraging. He will have strengthened nicely during the break and still looks to be ahead of his current rating at this stage of his career. JAZZ STEED rallied strongly last time out to dead-heat in the shadow of the post. He runs well with Chad Schoefield in the saddle and should be able to pose a threat to the top selection. HARRIER JET shoulders top weight but he placed last time under this rider and can run into the money again.
RACE 5
STARLIT KNIGHT is drawn best of all. He returns from a break but the form he brings into the race is good enough to win a race of this nature. He will benefit from a 1.5kgs apprentice allowance and if returning fit then he will go close to winning in this contest. V CHEVALIERS beat Virtus Star by 1L last time out in Class 5 and although he faces stronger today, he is fortunate enough to be shouldering bottom weight. REGENCY MASTER jumps from barrier 2 in this contest. He finished third last time out behind Family Leader when only beaten 2.75L and if coming on from that effort then he can run into the money once again.
RACE 6
SELL MY SOLE is clearly on the upgrade. He is placed in three out of four outings thus far which suggests a win is right around the corner. He was only beaten by a long-neck last time out and with Chad Schoefield in the irons, he can make amends in the sixth race. KINDA COOL has good form before the break. He is coming off the back of a decent trial at Conghua Racecourse and if fully fit then he can challenge the top selection. SIMPLY FLUKE is improving rapidly at the Dougie Whyte yard. He finished runner-up behind Harmony N Home in his first run for the yard and if coming on from that effort then he should run into the money.
RACE 7
HARDLY SWEARS represents decent value for Hong Kong racing pundits in the seventh race. He found a form return in his comeback effort under Alex Badel when making up good ground to fill the runner-up berth. He should come on with that run under the belt and can make amends this time around. MIG ENERGY was no match for the winner last time out. He always sets a decent pace in his races and if overcoming his wide draw without using up too much energy, then he may be difficult to peg back in the closing stages of this contest. MEHBOOB ran a creditable fourth in his return to the races. He seems over the issues he experienced in his penultimate run and should be able to run into the money, providing he puts his best foot forward.
RACE 8
HIGHLAND FORTUNE only got caught in the shadow of the post last time out. He reunites with Zac Purton who earned back-to-back wins aboard him last season and the pair should be tough to beat in the lucky last race. GOLDEN DASH finished strongly last time out under Matthew Poon. If handling the drop to the minimum trip then he should be right there at the business end of affairs. LARSON is much better than his last start suggests. He was reported to be lame that day and if over that issue then he should run into the money.
