SANDOWN PARK
Race 2: No5 - IGOR
Trainer: Nicky Henderson - Jockey: Mr S Whaley-Cohen
Anything that the giant IGOR achieved over hurdles was regarded by connections as a bonus, making this switch to fences a sight to look forward to. He meets a more than worthy foe in Sevarano, but at a course where the ability to jump is of paramount importance, there seems to be plenty of value in the Seven Barrows candidate, who has schooled beautifully at home.
Race 5: No3 - MISTER COFFEY
Trainer: Nicky Henderson - Jockey: Nico de Boinville
While his racecourse visits are infrequent, MISTER COFFEE has stacks of ability and remains a horse of some potential, with just three career starts to his name. He’s been the subject of solid support on each occasion, landing the odds laid on his on debut in a Huntingdon bumper; scoring with something up his sleeve on hurdling introduction at Newbury, and finding only West Cork his master in a similar race back at Huntingdon. He’s a fascinating prospect and commands a mass of respect on this handicap bow.
Race 6: No6 - SINGLEFARMPAYMENT (Each Way)
Trainer: Henry Oliver - Jockey: Adrian Heskin
There seems little doubt that SINGLEFARMPAYMENT has a tendency to hold something back at the business end, but he nevertheless has good form to bring to the table for this veterans’ chase, while making his debut for a new trainer. Horses with a ‘kink’ can derive considerable benefit from a change of scenery, and if that applies to the ten-year-old he can get into the argument.
Race 7: No10 - NO ORDINARY JOE (Nap)
Trainer: Nicky Henderson - Jockey: Nico de Boinville
NO ORDINARY JOE can prove he’s well named on debut under Rules for a stable that should do well at this course’s first fixture of the season. He skipped Newbury last week to wait for better ground and is in a less competitive race.
FFOS LAS
Race 2: No1 - HIGHWAY ONE O TWO (Nap)
Trainer: Chris Gordon - Jockey: Tom Cannon
HIGHWAY ONE O TWO went from strength to strength over hurdles last season, completing a fine hat-trick in a Grade 2 at Kempton before lockdown. He’s going to be just as good as a chaser and it’s with that in mind that his trainer hasn’t waited to make the switch and bring him back 8n this beginners’ chase.
Race 5: No2 - SHANTOU VOW
Trainer: Harry Whittington - Jockey: Harry Cobden
Cobden is an eye taking booking for Southwell specialist SHANTOU VOW, who appeared to relish a step up in trip when chasing home Mr Scrumpy over three miles at Wetherby. Track, ground and this distance are ideal for the gelding.
STRATFORD
Race 2: No3 - CRACKER JAK
Trainer: Suzy Smith - Jockey: M Nolan
Since back-to-back wins in the spring of 2019 CRACKER JAK has only occasionally made it onto the track. That said, his comeback run when placed at Fakenham promised of better to come, and he makes plenty of appeal embarking on a season in which he can make up for lost time.
Race 4: No11 - WITNESS PROTECTION (Nap)
Trainer: Maarten Keightley - Jockey: James Best
All the way Huntingdon scorer Prince Escalus will be a popular order running under a penalty but there should be better value in WITNESS PROTECTION who after winning a point earned in each of his three races last season. He’s returning from more than a year’s absence but is fit enough to shake-up the favourite.
