The most exciting end to top flight football leagues across the world takes place in the French Ligue 1. There are six gameweeks remaining with a mere five-points between first and fourth position. The log leaders Lille take on a Montpellier side that is unbeaten in 13 fixtures. Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain, who sit in second place, lock horns with midtable Saint-Etienne. Monaco, who have only lost one match in the last 20 games, meet struggling Bordeaux. Finally, fourth-placed Olympique Lyonnaise take on relegation zone Nantes to stay in the four-horse race.

Friday 16 April
Lille 6/10
Draw 29/10
Montpellier 44/10
(21:00)
Montpellier have only beaten Lille at the Stade Pierre Mauroy twice in 17 attempts, once in 2011 and then 14 years prior in 1997, which was the first time the teams ever faced one another in Ligue 1. Les Douges will have added confidence going into the game with their top-scoring (seven goals) midfielder this season, Yusuf Yazici, back in action after contracting Covid-19 before their decisive victory over PSG in gameweek 31. Back Lille to win at 6/10.
Saturday 17 April
Angers 23/10
Draw 43/20
Rennes 13/10
(13:00)
Kicking off the first of just two Saturday fixtures in Ligue 1 is one midtable team and one just four points from a Europa League place. Angers and Rennais have faced three times this season with this being the fourth and final go at each other. Rennais won the first encounter 1-0 at home in a club friendly and Angers won the first league fixture and a Coupe de France quarter final 2-1 away and at home respectively. Despite the Black and Whites having a better head-to-head, they have not won in four league games and the Red and Blacks have not lost in four matches. I am going to back the possession play of Rennais to lead them to victory and close the head-to-head gap.
Marseille 19/20
Draw 5/2
Lorient 29/10
(17:00)
Jorge Sampaoli will steer the boat for the sixth match since joining Marseille in the beginning of March when they face Lorient for the 30th tie between the two French teams. Lorient have won a single away match in the league this season when they defeated Reims in October last year. The Olympians, on the other hand, are unbeaten in five home matches, winning four and drawing one. The home team will take all three points here.
Sunday 18 April
Paris Saint-Germain 1/4
Draw 48/10
St. Etienne 9/1
(15:00)
Paris Saint-Germain kicks off Ligue 1’s Sunday array of fixtures when they welcome St Etienne where the French giants are losing their touch, having lost three league games on the trot. Les Verts last won their seventh game in 48 efforts against PSG in 2012, and their away form on the road has been quite pleasant for Claude Puel, winning four of their last five to nil. Despite the run of forms, I cannot go against second-placed PSG versing a 15th place St Etienne. You can expect PSG to take the home win and over 2.5 goals at 15/20 despite their slump at Le Parc des Princes.
Brest 43/20
Draw 22/10
Lens 27/20
(15:00)
Lens will be excited to travel to Brest this weekend as their form on the road has been preferable with three more wins than their home record this season and the Blood and Gold’s current unbeaten away streak sits at seven games undefeated. The home team, on the other hand, had a good run of form at home towards the end of last year but have struggled to put back-to-back wins at the Stade Francis-Le Ble since December last year. The away team are favourites and I back them to take three points.
Dijon 29/10
Draw 26/10
Nice 9/10
(15:00)
Every week I will back against Dijon and this week’s even money on Nice makes it that much easier, but for form perspective here goes… Dijon are now without a win in 16 matches and are on a 13-game losing streak. Nice, on the other hand, are on a six-game unbeaten streak in the league, something the Owls only see in their dreams. No question, back Nice to win at 9/10 as the banker bet.
Nimes 11/4
Draw 51/20
Strasbourg 19/20
(15:00)
In this fixture’s short history, Strasbourg have been triumphant in seven of 13 contests. The Racers sit 14th on the Ligue 1 table, six points clear of immediate danger to relegation with just six games left this season. Even though the visitors are favourites, there is no particular form to bank on in calling the Strasbourg win. The pressure Nimes face to avoid the same fate as last season when they fell into relegation play-offs will push them to fight harder as their form away from home is something to look at with two wins, two draws, and just one loss in a game they dominated upon a statistics inspection. Back the home team to grind out a win at 11/4 as my value bet of the gameweek.
Reims 12/10
Draw 43/20
Metz 24/10
(15:00)
Reims are building their Stade Auguste-Delaune II into a fortress as they’re without a defeat in the league for 10 consecutive matches at home. But of those, seven are draws and three are wins. Metz’s last road trip ended in a 4-0 schooling to title challengers Monaco, but their form away has proven better, losing just three in comparison to their seven at home. The Red and Whites have been tipped favourites due to their home form but have never beaten Metz in their five previous attempts. The Maroons will take the win on their travels.
Bordeaux 37/10
Draw 28/10
Monaco 7/10
(17:05)
The bulk of in-form Monaco’s defeats come from their away trips, with six of their seven losses this season being away from home. Wissam Ben Yedder bagged a brace to take his tally to 15 this season in his last fixture after enduring a six-game goal drought. You can expect more goals from him as Monaco’s attacking style of play allows him to run in behind. Bordeaux have been woeful and the team is a shadow of what it used to be, with no home wins in their last five and three straight defeats. Take Monaco to win at 7/10.
Nantes 44/10
Draw 32/10
Lyon 11/20
(21:00)
Lyon are still on the push for Champions League football, they’re currently one point short, as well as the possible title this year, five points off. Nantes, on the other hand, have not won a game in their back yard since October last year and they sit 19th on the Ligue 1 table, and after last week’s defeat, the cement is slowly drying with their feet still stuck in the drop zone. Back the Kids to make three points count in their title efforts.
TREBLE @ 10/1
Nice Win 9/10
Metz Win 24/10
Monaco Win 7/10
