Neil Morrice brings you all of his best bets and tips for Tuesday's racing coming your way from Epsom, Yarmouth, Sedgefield, Wolverhampton and Southwell.
EPSOM
Race 2 No7 UNCLE BRYN (Nap)
Trainer: John Gosden - Jockey: Frankie Dettori
Dual all-weather scorer UNCLE BRYN puts his Classic hopes on the line over the final mile and a quarter of the Investec Derby course. The son of Sea The Stars has done everything right in his preparation for a first run on grass and can add this Listed prize to his tally and remain unbeaten. The very good vibes about him from Newmarket need to be accurate if he’s to put paid to promising rivals like Star Caliber and Wirko today.
Race 3 No5 CELTIC ART (Each Way)
Trainer: Paul Cole - Jockey: Rossa Ryan
In three outings last year CELTIC ART was unable to endorse the promise of his juvenile season, adding up beating only one home in the Cambridgeshire behind stablemate Majestic Dawn. He’s had issues, but if recapturing the ability shown at two could have a say in this City And Suburban Handicap. Others to include in exotics are former French-trained Blue Cup and Victory Chime.
Race 5 No3 GALAHAD THREEPWOOD
Trainer: Mick Channon - Jockey: George Bass
The historic ‘Great Met’ is a five-cornered affair in which any of the runners can win. Tactics will play a big part and GALAHAD THREEPWOOD could be the one to benefit most if there’s no pace. He’s a horse that may lack a turn of foot, but can utilise his track craft to make an early break for home and last out.
YARMOUTH
Race 2 No2 ROBASTA (Nap)
Trainer: Andrew Balding - Jockey: Oisin Murphy
Mehmas colt ROBASTA has plenty of stamina on the dam’s side of his pedigree but nevertheless shown abundant speed in his homework. His stable is amongst the winners, and he could have too many guns for fellow debutant and likely market leader Second Wind.
Race 7 No11 SUNRISE VALLEY (Each Way)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute - Jockey: Oisin Murphy
Stoute saddles previous winner Sabousi, but his task of conceding 12lbs to stablemate SUNRISE VALLEY may prove too much. The selection has shown sparkle in her work, and while there’s a chance she will run green, she’s attractively priced to post a minor upset.
SEDGEFIELD
Race 1 No5 MALPAS (Nap)
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr - Jockey: Brian Hughes
MALPAS would have finished second to Dargiannini had he not fallen at the final flight over course and distance last time. None the worse for the mishap, he can deservedly open his account at the main expense of Cooper’s Cross.
Race 6 No2 JUST A SIP
Trainer: Warren Greatrex - Jockey: Caoilin Quinn
The consistent JUST A SIP came home unchallenged at Plumpton to give her a big confidence boost after a couple of near-misses. Her trainer engages the same useful conditional and a follow-up success is on the cards, as most of her foes are badly out of form.
Race 8 No2 GET SKY HIGH
Trainer: Dan Skelton - Jockey: Harry Skelton
Former Irish point-to-pointer GET SKY HIGH has done well for new connections with two placed efforts followed by a win in a Stratford bumper. As her jockey turns the screw in his bid for the jockeys’ title, she should prove very hard to beat.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 1 No8 STREET POET (Each Way)
Trainer: Michael Herrington - Jockey: John Shinnick
Regular earner STREET POET has a good draw from which to obtain a handy position and can trouble the judge at rewarding odds. He rarely attracts market support but is an eight-times winner at this course, and hard to rule out of calculations.
Race 8 No2 STYLISH PERFORMER (Nap)
Trainer: Karl Burke - Jockey: Clifford Lee
STYLISH PERFORMER has made a solid start to his career with a debut second followed by a clear cut win when stepped up to this seven furlongs here last month. He’s in the zone and could enjoy a fitness edge on Desert Gulf, who returns from a six month absence.
SOUTHWELL
Race 6 No4 BARNEY’S BAY (Nap)
Trainer: Tim Easterby - Jockey: David Allan
BARNEY’S BAY looks the outstanding bet on a tricky card. The Nap posted a third frame finish in as many starts on seasonal return at Pontefract, having been well supported but ‘running into one’ in the shape of wide margin scorer Dexter Belle. On all-weather debut, he should find tonight’s opposition easier to deal with.
Place Accumulator Perm (Races 1-7)
3, 1 x 4, 2 x 4, 3 x 1 x 1 x 4 x 4, 7
