LA DI VAR relished the switch to this circuit and she ran on smartly to easily beat a similar field over five furlongs, two weeks ago. She was heavily penalized six pounds but the extremely well-bred chestnut mare could have lots more to offer on this track. She has won up to 1300m and quite interest- ingly, the daughter of Var is unbeaten on polytracks, having notched up a victory in PE in July. She will be cherry-ripe and once again enjoys a 4kgs apprentice claim.

GREAT EXPECTATION is way better than his poor last run on the grass and in fact, he is unbeaten on this surface. He landed a huge betting coup with an easy win over this c & d in his penultimate run and the Drier inmate would have benefitted from the eight week break. He is still a lightly raced son of Seventh Rock who should bounce back to form on his favourite track. The likely blistering pace will play right into his hands.

Top jockey Anton Marcus keeps faith with the four-year old bay who has posted two decent runs on this surface. The top selection has gate speed to overcome his wide draw and he can get it right for Gareth van Zyl, who has just taken out his trainer's licence.

He still needs to prove himself on this surface but only weakened late behind start-to-finish winner BORN TO RULE (4.5kgs worse off) over this c & d last time out. He jumps from a much better draw today and can reduce the 4.80 lengths deficit greatly, on his peak showing. The latter may not have things his own way but boasts solid recent form and should again be competitive with the 4kgs claiming apprentice.
