Many top class sprinters head to post to contest the huge first prize on offer and whilst most eyes will be firmly focused on the 'lightning quick' gelding SERGEANT HARDY, top trainer Vaughan Marshall may have a shrewd plan to topple the likely favourite from the Snaith yard. The local conditioner saddles the Grade 1 winner ALWAYS IN CHARGE who reverts to sprinting after an excusable last run and the improving ELUSIVE PATH who is unbeaten from two efforts over this distance. The pair represent the same owners so it is highly likely that the latter may be sacrificed to push the highest merit rated entrant hard in the early stages, particularly as he is drawn alongside SERGEANT HARDY. Of course, all that could pave the way for top jockey Anton Marcus' mount, ALWAYS IN CHARGE to return to winning ways over his favourite distance.

The famous Mayfair Speculators colours could be dominant once more here with WILLIAM LONGSWORD and I TRAVEL LIGHT flying the flag. The former is preferred by retained jockey Anton Marcus and hardly surprisingly after the Captain Al colt kept on well to beat Gold Standard by half a length in the Guineas over this c & d last time out. The pair finished comfortably ahead of the 3rd placed entrant Table Bay (runs in the Derby) and of course, the latter takes his place in the SunMet later this afternoon. The top selection has unfortunately drawn wide once again but he has gate speed and can follow-up.

STAR EXPRESS has had a staggered career, possibly due to injury, but the Snaith inmate has shown top ability from day one & she could still be much better than rated despite a recent four-pound penalty. The daughter of Silvano was winning an ordinary ten-furlong handicap on this 'big day' a year ago but such has been the brilliance of her two comeback runs this season that she now contests an event at the highest level. She pushed her high-class stablemate Bela-Bela hard in her comeback run over seven furlongs and then stayed on to finish just two lengths adrift of the same rival at Grade 1 level over nine furlongs a mere three weeks later. She will be cherry-ripe today and despite perhaps just preferring an extra furlong, the four-year-old chestnut filly can pull this off from her wide draw.

The defending champion OVIDIO has enjoyed a smashing prep for this contest and he went down narrowly under a huge mass over two miles three weeks ago. The six-year-old top weighted gelding is extremely well treated by the weights on official ratings and he looks set to make a successful defence of his title.

His finest career moment came in the Derby over this track & trip just over a year ago and the long-striding son of Dynasty has produced smart subsequent performances at the highest level, including a solid 4th in the July. His prep has been excellent & he could be a totally different proposition for WHISKY BARON over this ten furlongs, despite the favourable weight turnaround for the latter. His good draw should enable his jockey to sit right up with the early speed and possibly dictate terms.
