The final field for the 2017 Sun Met has been announced! The R5 Million stakes race will be contested over 2000m at Kenilworth racecourse on Saturday 28th January 2017.
After success in the L'Ormarins Queen's Plate, Legal Eagle will be the one to beat in this year's race. The Sean Tarry trained six-year old gelding ran a cracking race to defeat most of his competitors in this field, but he will be tested with the extra quarter-mile to race. A big draw card for the event will be that of champion jockey Frankie Dettori, who has been flown in by the Joey Ramsden stable to ride the 2016 Vodacom Durban July winner The Conglomerate. Bela Bela enters this race on the back of a flying-finish victory in the Paddock Stakes, while Marinaresco - an early ante-post favourite for this race - will look to be running on in the final furlongs.
