Watford defender Marvin Zeegelaar will miss their next three games after the Football Association rejected an appeal to overturn his red card against Burnley.
The Dutchman was dismissed for a two-footed challenge on Steven Defour in the 39th minute at Turf Moor on Saturday with the score still deadlocked at 0-0.
The Clarets would soon take full advantage of the extra man as Scott Arfield opened the scoring on the stroke of the half-time which secured a 1-0 win.
Hornets head coach Marco Silva was critical of referee Lee Probert after the match, insisting he made the wrong decision to send off Zeegelaar.
"There was good competition between everybody then, after one decision, the referee made a big difference in the match, a big influence, and it was a harsh decision for me," Silva said.
"It's not a red, that changed everything, and after two or three minutes they scored. The referee never had control of the match and he lost it with the moment when he made the mistake.
"I understand I can make mistakes and so can our players, and the referee can too, but he made a big mistake and that had a big influence."
However, the 27-year-old's ban will stand following a failed appeal from the club, making him ineligible for the fixtures against Crystal Palace, Huddersfield and Brighton.
