La Rochelle will be looking to put a hit and miss Harlequins side to the sword when the two teams lock horns on Sunday the 21st of January.
Arguably Europe's most exhilarating team, La Rochelle, will take on Harlequins this Sunday in a game that could well make or break the French side's season. The French outfit currently sits third on the Champions Cup Pool 1 standings, a point behind first-placed Ulster. As such, their hunt for a spot in the next round of the competition is well and truly alive, unlike Harlequins who have nothing but pride to play for here.

The last two rounds of the Champions Cup have been far from kind to La Rochelle who looked set to wrap up top spot in the group prior to their 21-23 Round 4 away defeat to Wasps. A subsequent 20-13 defeat to Ulster in the most recent round of the competition has left La Rochelle fighting for their survival in the tournament. with those successive defeats have left La Rochelle needing a win this Sunday in order to qualify for the next round.
Luckily for La Rochelle, Harlequins have been far from consistent this term with their five-point victory over Wasps this past weekend being a rare highlight of their Champions Cup run. Even more heartening for La Rochelle fans has been their side's home for in the tournament, with the Frenchmen winning both of their home fixtures by margins in excess of 19 points.

Where did that display come from? 'Quins had been absolutely shambolic in Europe up until last week, losing all four of their games prior to their meeting with Wasps. In fact, so poor had 'Quins been up until last Saturday that they had only managed to claim two points from their previous four fixtures.
They may be coming off the back of a win but I doubt coach Mark Mapletoft will be willing to field as strong a side this weekend as he did last. The Aviva Premiership returns the weekend following this and that's the competition that Harlequins will be focussing on.
There is a bit of a silver -lining to Harlequins putting the Champions Cup on the back burner and that silver-lining is a talented young pivot, Marcus Smith. The youngster is likely to get a start this weekend and I personally cannot wait to see him in action again as he is your quintessential x-factor player.
Verdict: La Rochelle 1/100
I'm predicting a return to form for the French club against what is likely to be a weakened Harlequins side. My money is on La Rochelle winning this one by 18 points or more.
