Cape Town City boss John Comitis has admitted that it's possible that former Bafana Bafana captain Steven Pienaar will be signed by the club.
The 35-year-old former Sunderland, Everton, Borussia Dortmund, and Ajax Amsterdam playmaker is a free agent after he was released a couple of weeks back by Bidvest Wits, just six months into what was believed to be a high-paying contract.
Pienaar was subsequently seen at the Cape Town Stadium last weekend when the Citizens edged out Ajax Cape Town 1-0 in a feisty local derby.
Comitis says he had words with the Johannesburg-born midfielder and has not counted out the possibility of signing him.
"Pienaar was at our game and I had a bit of a chat with him," the Citizens boss told KickOff.
"But I still have to discuss it with Benni [McCarthy, head coach] in a meeting [on Tuesday] afternoon."
City assistant coach Vasili Manousakis was quoted in the same report as saying that the club are "looking at bringing in two more, all offensive players that can play in the top four positions – out wide, up at the top, possibly a ten."
One of those players is Ugandan winger Allan Kateregga, who was confirmed as a new signing on Tuesday morning.
City already have two other Bafana Bafana-capped players who can operate in the Number 10 position - Teko Modise and Ayanda Patosi.
The Cape club are second on the standings, four points behind Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 29-year-old bagged 54 goals in his three years with SuperSport.
