Our soccer pundit previews the German Bundesliga week 33 action which kicks off on Saturday 5 May 2018.
There’s some great value on offer in the German Bundesliga with all of the games played on Saturday. Here are my predictions for gameweek 33:
Saturday 5 May
Borussia Dortmund 7/20

Mainz 7/1
Dortmund will be looking to continue their impressive home form when they host Mainz. The BVB are unbeaten in their last nine matches at Signal Iduna Park with six wins, including four on the spin. Mainz come off an impressive 3-0 home win over Leipzig but they’ve struggled on the road this season, recording just one win from their 16 travels. The home win is tipped.
Leipzig 6/10

Wolfsburg 4/1
Leipzig slumped to a 3-0 loss away to Mainz last Sunday, their fourth defeat in five games in all competitions. The Red Bulls have a good opportunity to get back to winning ways as they host 16th-placed Wolfsburg. The Wolves have recorded just one win in their last 13 matches, suffering eight defeats, including two in a row. I’m backing Leipzig to come good here.
Cologne 15/2

Bayern Munich 1/4
It’s top versus bottom as Bayern Munich visit Cologne. The Billy Goats were relegated after losing 3-2 at Freiburg last Saturday, their 20th defeat of the season. Meanwhile, Bayern claimed an emphatic 4-1 victory at home to Eintracht Frankfurt. The Bundesliga champions are unbeaten in their last nine meetings with the visitors, winning eight times. Get on the away win.
Werder Bremen 11/4

Bayer Leverkusen 17/20
Werder Bremen’s impressive home form continued as they held Dortmund to a 1-1 draw. The result extended Bremen’s unbeaten run on their ground to 11 matches with six wins. Bayer Leverkusen are looking to end a three-match losing streak. They were thrashed 6-2 by Bayern Munich in the DFB Pokal semi-finals and suffered a heavy 4-0 loss at Dortmund, before losing 1-0 at Stuttgart last Saturday.
I’m backing the Green-Whites on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 7/10.
Monchengladbach 8/10

Freiburg 31/10
Monchengladbach have been inconsistent in the Bundesliga, but they’ve improved at home, going unbeaten in four matches with back-to-back wins over Hertha Berlin and Wolfsburg. Freiburg finally managed to win a game last weekend, scoring a last-minute winner to beat Cologne 3-2 at home. Prior to that result, the 15th-placed side were winless in their last eight matches, suffering six defeats while scoring just twice. The home win is tipped.
Eintracht Frankfurt 9/10

Hamburg 26/10
Eintracht Frankfurt are winless in their last five matches, suffering four defeats. However, the Eagles have lost just once in their last seven home games, winning five times. Despite sitting in 17th place, Hamburg have won three of their last four matches, including two on the bounce. However, they’ve struggled at home, winning just twice from 16 matches, suffering 11 defeats. I’m backing this match to end in a draw.

Schalke 23/20
Augsburg have lost four of their last five matches at home. Second-placed Schalke will be looking to return to winning ways after back-to-back draws against Cologne and Monchengladbach. The Royal Blues are unbeaten in their last four meetings against Augsburg, winning the last two. The away win is the way to go.
Hannover 33/20

Hertha Berlin 33/20
Hannover have recorded just one victory in 10 matches, suffering seven defeats – four from their last five at home. Hertha Berlin are unbeaten in their last three matches in the Bundesliga with two wins. The Old Lady are also unbeaten in their last five meetings with Hannover, recording three wins. My money’s on the away win.
Stuttgart 43/20

Hoffenheim 11/10
Stuttgart are unbeaten in their last three matches with back-to-back wins over Werder Bremen and Leverkusen. Hoffenheim made it three wins in a row and extended their unbeaten run to nine matches when they beat Hannover 3-1 last Friday night. Julian Nagelsmann’s side have managed to score in all of their last nine away games. Both Teams to Score is tipped at 5/10.
