Cricket South Africa recently released the list of nominees for the upcoming national awards to take place in June and the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union will have four nominees across three categories.
Sarel Erwee and Nduduzo Mfoza were nominated in the Africa T20 Cup Rising Star category. Erwee recently scooped the Momentum One Day Cup Batsman of the Year award at the Hollywoodbets Dolphins annual awards and this goes to show his consistency and growth in various formats of the game.
His 231 runs in the tournament were the most of any batsman at an average of 77 along with a strike rate of just over 150 runs per 100 balls. His three fifties in the tournament was also a competition high.
Erwee’s Inland team mate Mfoza finished with the second most wickets in the competition at a miserly economy rate of just over six runs to the over. His six wickets were crucial in the Hollywoodbets KZN Inland’s title winning efforts.
Left-arm spinner, Keshav Maharaj, who last year was bestowed the International Newcomer of the Year award, got nominated for the Ram Delivery of The Year alongside Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada.
The highlight of these awards has to be Chloe Tyron, one of KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union female cricketers – a shining star and a beacon of hope for sportswomen in cricket.
Tryon regardless of the results that Proteas Women received and may not be proud of, managed to deliver under difficult circumstances.
Dinesha Devnarain, Tryon’s coach, applauded her achievement and said that Tyron has always been on top of her game.
“I think that it is incredible that she got nominated – she should enjoy the moment.
“She has always had a good head of her shoulders and it can only move upward from here,” Devnarain commented. “The team and I are extremely proud of her.”
Chief Executive Officer of KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Heinrich Strydom commended the players for the role that they have played in a memorable season for KZN cricket on the whole.
“We are immensely proud of these individual players who represented the province with passion and pride, and played pivotal roles in the success of the various teams that they represented.
"They contributed to an incredible season for KZN Cricket and made it possible to win three out of a possible six senior male trophies nationally, in the form of the Hollywoodbets Dolphins sharing the Momentum Cup, KZN Coastal winning the Sunfoil 3-day Cup and Hollywoodbets KZN Inland winning the Africa T20 Cup."
This prestigious ceremony is set to take place on 02 June at Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg and will be televised live on SuperSport 2 from 20h00.
Maharaj’s category, RAM delivery of The Year, will require fans to participate. Further details of these awards and how the voting mechanism works can be found on CSA’s Social Media platforms.
