A young Hollywoodbets Dolphins bowling attack made light work of the bizhub Highveld Lions batting line up as they bowled the hosts out for 134 after posting 303 in their first innings on day two of their CSA 4-Day Franchise Series clash at the Bidvest Wanderers on Thursday.
In an indifferent start to the morning the Dolphins lost their last four wickets for one run early in the day and were bowled out for a solid 303 in their first innings.
Captain Khaya Zondo didn’t add to his overnight score as he was caught for 114 and Keshav Maharaj fell for 23.
Eathan Bosch and Keith Dudgeon both fell for ducks and Kerwin Mungroo was the not out batsman for one.
The Dolphins started their bowling stint in the best possible fashion as young seamers Bosch, Mungroo and Dudgeon picked up one of the top three batsmen each.
Dudgeon bowled Stephen Cook for eight, Bosch bowled Mzansi Super League revelation Reeza Hendricks for two and Mungroo accounted for Omphile Ramela for a single.
With the Lions teetering on 46 for three, Mungroo struck again, Rassie van der Duseen was caught for nine.
Seven runs later Maharaj got in on the act and had Nicky van den Berg trapped in front for six. The Lions were 43 for five at that stage.
Wiaan Lubbe and Dwayne Pretorius attempted to resurrect their innings however the former was caught behind by Grant Roelofsen for 36.
Of the final four wickets to fall Andile Phehlukwayo bagged two, Dudgeon one and Mungroo one.
The Lions were bowled out for 134 inside 42 overs with Keith Dudgeon finishing with figures of three for 40 in 11 overs while Kerwin Mungroo finished with three for 35 in seven and a half overs.
With a lead of 169 at the start of their second innings the Dolphins were in a strong position to press home their advantage.
The openers got the Dolphins off to a solid start putting on 60 for the first wicket with Vaughn van Jaarsveld and Sarel Erwee both going past 30.
Van Jaarsveld was caught for 33 and Cody Chetty couldn’t replicate his first innings half century when he fell for a single.
Erwee was dismissed for 31 when the score was on 80 and the lead was 249.
First innings hero Zondo added 28 to the Dolphins lead and Sibz Makhanya assisted with 10 extra runs before they were dismissed by Aaron Phangiso and Dwayne Pretorius respectively.
Grant Roelofsen and Andile Phehlukwayo took the Dolphins to stumps with the score on 119 for five.
The pair will resume on seven and five respectively and the Dolphins lead is 288 going into the third day of the contest.
