Wolverhampton Best Bets
Race 1: DARK REGARD (11)
Trainer: Mark Johnston
Jockey: PJ McDonald
From a good draw,
DARK REGARD can take another step up the nursery ladder and complete a hat-trick. She’s been upwardly mobile since switching to the all-weather, showing a liking for the deeper Fibresand surface at Southwell. She was made plenty of use of when coming home a wide margin winner of a Class 5 last time, and having done us a favour is worth following off her new mark.
Race 8: TWILIGHTING (7)
Trainer: Henry Candy
Jockey: Nicola Currie
Having impressed in this grade at Kempton and enjoyed a freshen8ng subsequent break,
TWILIGHTING can capitalize on a peach of a draw three off the fence in this sprint finale. She is not certain to overturn previous Kempton placings with Katherine Place on the book, but that success has done her the world of good. She’s from the family of Group 1 winner Twilight Son, and although not a patch on him is a filly worth siding with.
Sedgefield Best Bets
Race 4: INDUNO (2)
Trainer: David Pipe
Jockey: Tom Scudamore
Bumper scorer
INDUNO has travelled a long way for this and can endorse the promise of that clear cut Ffos Las triumph. He was well backed and following a month’s break is ready to make an immediate impact now switched to hurdles. He’s schooled well and has already shown that soft ground will not be a hindrance.
Race 5: MOUNTAIN HAWK (7)
Trainer: Tim Easterby
Jockey: Jamie Hamilton
In a race won by the top class Waiting Patiently three years ago,
MOUNTAIN HAWK can make a winning return to the fray for a stable that does well with its runners in the novice chase division. The 7yo ended last season with a string of frame finishes either side of a win and is reported to have done well for his summer break.
Race 6: DEW POND (4)
Trainer: Tim Easterby
Jockey: Lee Cosgrove
Dual-purpose performer
DEW POND is an infrequent winner and is 0-7 over hurdles. However, he should enjoy the underfoot conditions under a capable pilot taking 3lb off his back. Interestingly he posted a frame finish in each of his last four outings over jumps last season.
Southwell Best Bets
Race 5: ALL GOOD THINGS (7)
Trainer: Matt Sheppard
Jockey: Stan Sheppard
ALL GOOD THINGS can gain an overdue success after signaling with his frame finish at Uttoxeter last time that he’s on the cusp of getting his head in front. In a race where only he and Richardoddodcombe ever had a chance of winning, he travelled best but ultimately couldn’t pick up that rival. On that evidence, the switch to an easier track should prove beneficial.
Race 6: SANTON (5)
Trainer: Alan King
Jockey: Tom Bellamy
Ex point-to-pointers Ask A Honey Bee and Java Point contest this bumper with good reports behind them but preference is for
SANTON who hails from a good jumping family and a stable that can ready one for a first time strike. Unless greenness gets in his way, the 4yo can endorse the promise of his preparatory work for this.
Punchestown Best Bets
Race 2: DLAURO (4)
Trainer: Joseph O’Brien
Jockey: Mark Walsh
If money talks then
DLAURO should already be past the post in this maiden hurdle. After impressing at the Belharbour point-to-point 8n February he was purchased for a king’s ransom. The hammer at that sale went down at a colossal £410,000 after which he dotted up for new connections in a bumper here in May. He’s already being talked about as a type for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.
Race 3: MINELLA ENCORE (11)
Trainer: Willie Mullins
Jockey: Paul Townend
The one with the greatest potential is
MINELLA ENCORE who excelled in bumpers before having his run ended by Blackbow at Leopardstown in February. He’s been given all the time it takes to grow into his frame, and should now be the finished article.
