WINTER IS COMING produced two quality recent efforts on this surface and he is definitely on the up. He finished well for a close 2nd behind a smart type over a mile on this track last time out and was in turn exactly five lengths ahead of the next placed finisher, subsequent winner Dale House. This well-related son of Western Winter clearly has more to offer and the drop to seven furlongs won't pose an issue. He jumps from pole position and should take a power of beating with top jockey Delpech engaged for the ride.

The Cape visitor HARRY DA WHEELS had excuses for his below-par last run and the ten-week break would have helped his cause. The five-year-old gelding does seem well handicapped on his local debut and he can stake a huge claim in this field, if he handles this surface. The engaging of top jockey Delpech indicates that his conditioner fancies his chances.

The night's topliner features just nine entrants but many with useful form and a close finish is expected. There are a couple of capable frontrunners who should ensure a steady gallop and a true result could still materialize. WIND SINGER is certainly better than her formline indicates and it does seem that her conditioner is yet to figure out the best trip for his daughter of Windrush. She has proven to be ineffective over sprints which explains some of her moderate form but she showed her quality with an impressive victory over seven furlongs on this course in her penultimate showing. She was comfortably beaten last time but was only three parts of a length adrift of the runner-up. The Duncan Howells inmate gives every indication that the mile will suit her and she has a handy galloping mass in this higher class. She should give a very good account of herself.

GESTE posted two fair efforts up to a mile recently and his pedigree suggests that the Querari gelding will relish tonight's step-up in distance. He weakened into a well-beaten 4th after setting the pace over a mile on this track last time but that was in a strong field, the formline of which has already been franked. It could pay to follow the progress of Winter Is Coming (runs in race 2) as that rival finished runner-up in that last event. The top selection is well drawn and he can make further progress. He will benefit from a 2.5kgs apprentice allowance.
