Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 1: CAPTAIN MARMALAD(1)
Jockey: Grant V.NIEKERK - Trainer: Justin SNAITH
The Justin Snaith yard is well-represented on this card and the stable should be followed with confidence.
CAPTAIN MARMALADE can get the ball rolling for the team and the Cape resident brings some decent 'Mother City' form into this opening event. The speedy son of Captain Al will strip fitter after perhaps needing his comeback run at the end of August. He is well drawn on his local debut and top jockey Van Niekerk gets the ride.

Race 2: PETALA(6)
Jockey: Grant V.NIEKERK - Trainer: Justin SNAITH
This is a tricky conditions plate where the ratings may not be the best pointer. The first selection PETALA once again hails from the Snaith stable and this four-year old bay filly has a little to find at the weights but she has plenty of class about her and can make a winning track debut. The daughter of Captain Al ran on smartly for a close 4th behind CLEAR SAILING (6.5kgs worse off) in a feature on the grass over six furlongs last time out. She returns from a 12 week absence but the engaging of top jockey Van Niekerk indicates that her conditioner will have her fit and ready. She should turn the tables on her conqueror and could represent decent value in this competitive field.

TOP BET
Race 5: SCENT(5)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE - Trainer: Alan GREEF
This is another competitive handicap with form runners who should ensure an exciting finish.
SCENT is loving life in this province and the five-year old bay gelding comes here searching for a hat-trick of wins after he easily beat lesser rivals, including
DREAMFOREST (1kg better off) over 2400m four weeks ago. That earned the former Highveld resident a five pound penalty but the Silvano gelding should raise his game in this field and his fluent penultimate victory proved his affinity for this surface. The latter showed good character to beat his stablemate Man Of The Cloth (runs in race 4) going away despite racing wide over this c & d subsequently. He still has a bit to find with the top rating though but is honest and should again be competitive.

Race 6: NIMA(6)
Jockey: Grant V.NIEKERK - Trainer: Justin SNAITH
The day's topliner sees a very competitive field of ten fillies and mares head to post and once again the Justin Snaith yard could hold the key.
NIMA has produced two smart performances in this province and she is the one to beat, if she handles this surface. The daughter of Fort Wood stayed on for 2nd, two lengths adrift of track specialist
SCARLET BERRY in a feature over 2400m last time out and she is now 1kg better off with her conqueror. She produced a last gasp victory over ten furlongs in her penultimate outing and this shorter trip should be ideal for her. The bay filly is well drawn. The top weight was super-impressive in that fluent last feature victory on the grass and of course, she is even better on today's surface. She was returning from a ten week break so will be fitter and still merits healthy respect despite the huge burden.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:
Race 4: BENJI'S DYNASTY(6)
Jockey: Karl ZECHNER - Trainer: Dorrie SHAM
This is an extremely competitive low-key handicap but there could be plenty of value about the top rating
BENJI'S DYNASTY who shed his maiden tag over this track & trip. The well-related four-year old has been moderate since but he had excuses when perhaps also needing his comeback run from an eleven week break. He will also prefer racing on today's handicap terms than the plate event he contested, seven days ago. The son of Dynasty finished well over further on this surface in his penultimate run at a similar level. It is interesting to note that he easily accounted for
MAN OF THE CLOTH on their maiden meeting on 21/03 over this c & d and he is 3.5kgs better off with that rival. The Dorrie Sham inmate is well drawn. The latter, admittedly, has improved significantly since the defeat and he was outrun late by his stablemate Dreamforest at a higher level over this c & d, three weeks ago. His wide draw is a slight concern but the bay gelding should be finishing well and must be included.
