Montpellier will be looking to pull a rabbit out of the hat when they take on an already qualified Leinster outfit on Saturday the 20th of January.
Vern Cotter's Montpellier have it all to do heading into the final round of the European Rugby Champions Cup Pool phase. The former Scotland mentor saw his side go down 41-10 to the Exeter Chiefs last Saturday. The heavy defeat has left the French club tinkering on the brink of an early Champions Cup exit.
Montpellier's opponents for this weekend, Leinster, had a much better time of it last weekend as they secured their spot in the next round with an impressive 55-19 victory over an admittedly weakened Glasgow side.

Montpellier have their backs against the wall and will need to come out fighting like ravaged dogs when they host undefeated Leinster this coming weekend. Vern Cotter's charges were given a real rugby lesson by Exeter last weekend and left Sandy Park without so much as a bonus point to show for their trip across the English channel. The 30 point defeat to the Chiefs has seen Montpellier drop to third on the Pool 3 standings, a point behind last weekend's opponents.
The permutations for advancement to the quarters are stacked against Montpellier as they will need to finish at least one log point above Exeter to have a chance of advancing to the next round - the competition's qualification rules work on head-to-head results rather than pool points aggregates. As such, the only way for Montpellier to get through would be for them to beat Leinster and Glasgow to beat Exeter, It seems that Montpellier's fate in Europe is more in the hands of the rugby gods than their own.
Anyway, Montpellier have a job to do this weekend and that job is to defeat an unbeaten Leinster outfit. Thankfully for Cotter and Co. Leinster are likely to field a weakened team as they have already secured top spot in the pool.

The Irish Province really are enjoying a great year in Europe, which has seen the odds on them winning the Champions Cup outright shorten drastically. They secured progress to the next round of the tournament with yet another emphatic victory over Glasgow as they ran out 55-19 victors this past Sunday. As such, they have the luxury of fielding more of an experimental side against Montpellier this weekend as they have nothing to play for.
Even if Leinster make a string of changes for this one, they will still pose problems for Montpellier. Head coach, Leo Cullen, has some extremely exciting youth players to call upon with the likes of Jordan Larmour taking to top tier European Rugby like a politician to lying.
If the youth brigade does turn out for Leinster this Saturday, then we can expect a really open-ended fixture. These Leinster youngsters have no fear and will look to run the ball from all quarters.
Verdict: Montpellier 8/10
I'm really looking forward to this one as I think we're due an absolute belter. Montpellier will probably be slightly more conservative than their opponents as a try-scoring bonus point will do little to help their cause. I can see this more measured approach reaping dividends, especially if their heavyweight pack can dominate the setpiece, which they really should against a weakened Leinster pack.
