Check out our weekly catchup of horseracing action between Monday and Thursday, including all four local meetings.
The Frankie Dettori magic on Frankel’s unbeaten son Logician to win the St Leger at Doncaster on Saturday was a highlight in a massive weekend of quality racing.
What a bumper sportings weekend! The Springboks gettting back on a winning note as well as the Hollywood Syndicate’s Alphamikefoxtrot’s gutsy win over his favourite trip at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday were just two highlights of a bumper weekend of sport.
The fiery and passionate Italians are the next Bok hurdle on Friday, and while the hammering of Namibia was not unexpected, there is nothing like the confidence boosting tonic of an emphatic victory to get the Cup-hungry Boks back to their brilliant best.
Remember, there is plenty of betting available on the RWC, click here for more.
Our Hollywood Syndicate’s Alphamikefoxtrot ran a decent comeback race last time and that lifted his fitness sufficiently, with top man S’manga Khumalo adding the finishing touches, to give the son of Var a deserved third career win on Sunday. He loves the 1000m!

The local action starts at 12h35 at Fairview today where the first of eight races are run on the Polytrack.
The What A Winter filly SCOTTISH ALLY has her first run in PE in the opener.
Formerly based with Candice Bass-Robinson, she ran places at 4 of her first 6 runs down in the Cape and she could make it a winning debut for Yvette Bremner when she steps out in the opener.
There are eight races carded on the Vaal classic track on Tuesday.
Candice Dawson has engaged the high-riding Warren Kennedy to ride her Dynasty filly MACHALI in the second race.
After two good runs, and showing improvement over the mile last time, she looks ready to escape the maiden ranks and has bumped a beatable-looking bunch here.
Hollywoodbets Greyville hosts eight races in midweek and it’s a tricky looking card that awaits us.
Summerveld-based Hollywoodbets trainer Garth Puller’s Just As Well filly GEORGINA ROSE could be just about anything when she steps into handicap company after a resounding debut victory at Hollywoodbets Scottsville a fortnight ago.
If she takes to the Poly, and can overcome her wide draw, she can follow up and make it two from two.
Eight-race meetings are the order of the week and we end the action on Thursday on the Vaal classic track again.
Lucky Houdalakis’ Master Of My Fate gelding TREND MASTER has run two smart races and that form brings him into contention for top honours in the opener.
He made his debut against winners when not disgraced and then ran on well behind Crimson God when stepping up to 1500m at his next start. He now reverts to the 1200m, and if not outpaced can go all the way to register his first win.
The first exciting rumblings of the Highveld Spring Season and Cape Summer Season are happening on Saturday – but watch this space for more about the big feature weekend ahead in our mailer on Thursday.
Have a great week – enjoy the racing!
Till next time.
Monday 30th September 2019
Fairview Polytrack
Race 7 – 16:15
1900m – MR 68 Handicap
9 – Whiteleaf Hills
Trainer: Gavin Smith
Jockey: Muzi Yeni
Wgt: 56.0kg
Draw: 1 (12 Runners)
Current Betting: 9/2
He has been super competitive since returning from his rest three starts back and may have finished a lot closer, had it not been for an untimely bump 100m from the finish. That was over the course and distance, from gate 9 and once again he was forced to race wide for much of the way. He has finally landed a prime draw and should be able to find a favourable early position with ease. He is 2kg’s better off with Okavango Delta on that penultimate run, when going down a short-head. The latter now has the tricky prospect of overcoming gate 11 today, so a lot appears to be in our favour.
Another danger could be in the form of Cruz Giovanni, who may have gone a lot closer to winning on his local debut last time. He too has a wide draw to overcome, but he deserves some respect. With Winning Form-sponsored Muzi Yeni retaining the ride, we give Whiteleaf Hills a great winning chance and he’s a confident each-way selection.
Winning Form Comment: Should have finished closer last time. Merits respect from pole position.
PeTeBe’s Top Bet for Fairview (30/09
Race 3: PARA HANDY (1)
Jockey: Chase MAUJEAN – Trainer: Tara LAING
PARA HANDY has won his first two starts for his new trainer since moving up from CT, both over this distance. He has a wide draw to overcome, but he likes to finish his races off well and may not be too bothered by that fact. If jumping on terms, he looks the one to side with here.
PeTeBe’s Top Bet for Vaal Classic (01/10)
Race 2: MACHALI (11)
Jockey: Warren Kennedy – Trainer: Candice DAWSON
MACHALI returns from a 10-week rest, but she has only had the two outings. She showed the expected improvement second time out when asked to go a mile, despite overracing early. She is the only runner on the day from the Candice Dawson yard and gets Warren Kennedy in the irons. If not needing the run, she looks very hard to beat from her good draw.
PeTeBe’s Top Bet for Hollywoodbets Greyville (02/10)
Race 5: GIBRALTAR GREEN (5)
Jockey: Yuzae RAMZAN – Trainer: Garth PULLER
GIBRALTAR GREEN did not have anything go his way in his last start over this c&d. He was slow into stride, he had to be switched in running and his jockey dropped his reins. He nevertheless only got beaten by a neck. The same 4kg claiming appie gets the chance to redeem himself and, given a trouble free run, he should be the one that they all have to beat.
PeTeBe’s Top Bet for Vaal Classic (03/10)
Race 6: LAKE KINNERET (4)
Jockey: Muzi YENI – Trainer: St John GRAY
LAKE KINNERET is looking to complete his hat-trick here and the manner in which he dispatched the field in his last win over a mile would suggest that this is very much on the cards. He steps up an extra furlong for the first time, but should not have an issue with that. It is always encouraging when Muzi Yeni retains the ride. The five-year-old gelding is unbeaten on this track.
