The Hollywoodbets Dolphins and the bizhub Highveld Lions played out an exciting draw in their Sunfoil Series clash at the Bidvest Wanderers on Sunday.
The Lions started the final day of the clash on 349/6 with Dwaine Pretorius and Wiaan Mulder at the crease for the hosts.
Another crucial 68 runs were scored by the Lions on the final morning and when they declared their innings closed on 417/7 the Dolphins needed 285 runs to win the match.
Of the seven wickets that fell in the Lions’ second innings Okuhle Cele, Prenelan Subrayen and Senuran Muthusamy all picked up two wickets while Kerwin Mungroo claimed one scalp.
In their chase the Dolphins started well once again and Sarel Erwee registered a half century before he fell for 50 off 47 deliveries. Dane Vilas scored 23 before he was the second wicket to fall with the score on 74.
Sibz Makhanya was the third Dolphins wicket to fall for 24 and he was followed by Khaya Zondo who was caught for 15.
Vaughn van Jaarsveld once again played positively and went past 50 at better than a run-a-ball before he was dismissed for 59 from 53 balls.
The Dolphins found themselves 178/5 in their chase, still needing 107 runs to win the match.
Eathan Bosch and first innings centurion Calvin Savage both fell cheaply and the Dolphins were in a spot of bother on 199/7.
The game was the called off for the day with rain delaying the action on Sunday meaning that a draw was the only outcome possible.
From Thursday 22 March to Sunday 25 March the Hollywoodbets Dolphins will take on the Warriors in their final Sunfoil Series clash of the season.
