Our soccer pundit previews the German Bundesliga week 25 action which kicks off on Friday 2 March 2018.
With just 10 rounds of Bundesliga football, yours truly will be looking to make it count. There’s plenty of value to be found in gameweek 25, it’s just a matter of making the right selections. Let’s get to it.
Friday 2 March
Monchengladbach 17/20
Draw 26/10
Werder Bremen 3/1
Monchengladbach ended a run of four consecutive losses last time out with a 1-0 victory away to Hannover. Werder Bremen have been in top form with three wins from their last four matches and will be hoping to build on that.
‘Gladbach won the reverse tie 2-0 but I’m expecting much more of an open contest here.
The Both Teams to Score – Yes – market is tipped at 7/10.
Saturday 3 March
Hamburg 5/4
Draw 43/20
Mainz 47/20
Hamburg are second from bottom on the log without a win in their last 11 matches, including three losses on the spin. Mainz are just one place above them on the table but six points clear and a win for the travelling side would have a massive effect on the relegation battle.
The O-Fives are unbeaten against the home side in the last five meetings and Mainz will be determined to build on that.
The Away Win/Draw Double Chance is tipped at 13/20.
Eintracht Frankfurt 15/20
Draw 26/10
Hannover 38/10
Eintracht Frankfurt are unbeaten in their last five matches with three wins on the spin, scoring eight goals in the process. Hannover are without a victory in their last seven travels, including four losses and three draws.
The Eagles have a top record against the Reds, winning the last four meetings.
With that being said, the home win is the way to go.
Schalke 13/20
Draw 11/4
Hertha Berlin 9/2
Schalke have been impressive of late with back-to-back wins, scoring four goals and conceding just once. Hertha Berlin is off the back of a hard-fought goalless draw away to runaway league-leaders Bayern Munich and can take pride in that stalemate.
Schalke have won the last nine meetings against Hertha Berlin at Veltins-Arena, scoring 18 goals and conceding only once.
Get on the home win.
Wolfsburg 9/4
Draw 49/20
Bayer Leverkusen 23/20
Wolfsburg are winless in their last four matches but are coming off a hard-earned 1-1 draw away to Mainz. Bayer Leverkusen have been inconsistent in recent weeks but remain unbeaten on the road in their last nine travels.
This is a bit of a tough one to call given that both sides are struggling to maintain winning form. However, the last nine meetings have produced 41 goals at an average of 4.5 per game.
The Totals – Over 2.5 Goals – market is tipped at 15/20.
Augsburg 33/20
Draw 23/10
Hoffenheim 16/10
Augsburg did really well to hold Borussia Dortmund to a 1-1 draw last time out and will now return to their ground to try and build on that. Hoffenheim are winless in their last seven travels with five defeats and two draws.
The reverse fixture ended 2-2 and with home advantage, I feel Augsburg might just do enough to edge the win.
Back the home team to claim all three points.
Leipzig 31/20
Draw 5/2
Borussia Dortmund 33/20
Saturday’s final fixture pits Leipzig up against Borussia Dortmund. The Red Bulls have been poor of late with back-to-back losses but usually step up their game against the big teams. Dortmund are unbeaten in their last nine games.
Although the reverse tie entertained with a five-goal thriller as Leipzig ran out 3-2 winners, I’m expecting a much more cagey and tight affair.
The Totals – Under 2.5 Goals – market is tipped at 12/10.
Sunday 4 March
Cologne 14/10
Draw 9/4
Stuttgart 39/20
The penultimate match of the round will see bottom-dwellers Cologne take on high-flying Stuttgart. The relegation battlers impressed last time out with a 2-1 win away to Leipzig, while Stuttgart earned a third consecutive 1-0 victory.
A low-scoring affair looks likely and that’s that way I will be going.
Take the Totals – Under 2.5 Goals – market at 15/20.
Freiburg 8/1
Draw 9/2
Bayern Munich 3/10
Last but not least, Freiburg will welcome reigning champions to the Schwarzwald-Stadion on Sunday evening. The hosts earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Hoffenheim last weekend but will need to be even better if they are to get anything out of this game.
Bayern Munich have won their last five travels and thrashed Freiburg 5-0 in the reverse tie.
Back the Bavarians on the Halftime-Fulltime win at 15/20.
TREBLE TIPPED @ 4/1
Eintracht Frankfurt Win 15/20
Schalke Win 13/20
Cologne vs Stuttgart Under 2.5 Goals 15/20
