Piere Strydom last tasted champagne success in this race in 2003 with Angus and he joins up with the powerful Snaith outfit once again. His comments on his mount Doublemint were:
“His prep has gone really well and he has third run after a rest so he should be spot on. He does have a tough task being 10.5kgs out at the weights with Do It Again and whether he is good enough remains to be seen."
"One should expect a nice strong pace in the Met and the best horse should win. Do It Again and Rainbow Bridge are the two horses to beat but I will be hoping for a good performance.”

Lyle Hewitson has been lucky enough to pick up the mount on
LEGAL EAGLE who ran a creditable fourth in last year’s event behind Oh Susanna which could continue to catapult his fledgling career and he commented:
“Legal Eagle’s last run was a bit below par but still wasn’t disgraced, other than that his prep has been absolutely perfect.When studying the field I expect a good pace this year."
"My best ride could be Trip To Heaven or Chimichuri Run although it is a very competitive racecard.”

Keagan de Melo finds himself aboard the Nel-trained inmate
HEAD HONCHO who has rapidly risen through the ranks and comes off the back of a hat-trick of victories. The son of Querari seems to perform best for him and he was positive when mentioning:
“His preparation has been really good so hoping everything is still on track for the big race. There should be a hot pace if Milton goes but my horse has a high cruising speed and I won’t hesitate to do it myself.
"The filly Oh Susanna and Do it Again are my main dangers although I do think it is very competitive."
"I have a few good rides on the day but my best could possibly be in the main event.”

Anton Marcus needs no introduction to avid racegoers. “Superman” as he is affectionately known has picked up a promising mount in the form of
RAINBOW BRIDGE and had the following to comment:
“He gives me a nice feel but I respect the fact that he hasn’t been ten furlongs. I am expecting an even run race and the big dangers are previous allies Do It Again and Legal Eagle, along with the filly Oh Susanna.”

MJ Byleveld has inspiringly returned from a serious neck injury and sounded pleased to be back aboard
TAP O' NOTH for this prestigious event when saying:
“This is his third run after the KZN season. The first run was obviously too short for him but he ran on nicely in his last start. He galloped really well at Kenilworth last Saturday and his draw could keep him out of trouble as he didn’t enjoy the bunching in Durban."
"It looks like the pace could be on but one never knows when the gates open. The main dangers are Do It Again, Rainbow Bridge and Made To Conquer."
"My best rides on the day are Top Of The Class and Tap O’Noth.”
