Our football analyst previews the KZN Premier's Cup which takes place on Saturday 27 July and Sunday 28 July.
The Princess Magogo Stadium draws back its curtains for the opening round of the annual pre-season tournament involving the top seven teams from KwaZulu-Natal in the Premiers Cup. With Golden Arrows already confirmed in the semi-finals, the onus is now on AmaZulu and Maritzburg United to join their top-flight rivals when they face Uthongathi and Royal Eagles respectively, while the only all-NFD affair sees Richards Bay and Real Kings lock horns in between those two match-ups.

AmaZulu 9/10 (11:00)
Uthongathi will be looking to upset the apple cart when they square up with AmaZulu in the KZN Premiers Cup opening encounter. Johnny Ferreira will be hoping the Cane Cutters’ possession-based style of play can outwit Usuthu, while also managing to find the back of the net against Siyabonga Mbatha, who comes off the back of a stellar campaign for AmaZulu.
This will certainly not be a walk in the park for Cavin Johnson’s men, with the Usuthu head coach also expected to tinker with new formations, and more importantly, his new attacking duet in Lehlohonolo Majoro and Andre de Jongh.
This should be the most exciting match-up of the day with AmaZulu tipped to edge it at 9/10.
Richards Bay 13/10

Real Kings 2/1 (13:00)
The only all-NFD clash in the Premiers Cup sees Richards Bay take on Real Kings. Surprisingly, Richards Bay are priced up as favourites. Perhaps log standings were taken into consideration and not much reading went into these two sides’ head-to-head meetings with Real Kings unbeaten against the Natal Rich Boyz in their last four encounters, winning twice.
In fact, the price of 2/1 certainly looks worth the punt on Real Kings, especially after they ended the 2018/19 NFD campaign with three wins on the spin, the only side in the division to end the season off with nine points from their last three games.
Back Real Kings here at a mouth-watering 2/1!
Royal Eagles 16/10

Maritzburg United 16/10 (15:00)
Royal Eagles and Maritzburg United go toe-to-toe once again after meeting each other in the promotion/relegation play-offs, with the Team of Choice picking up six points against the Eagles over the two matches played. This will also be coach Eric Tinkler’s first Premiers Cup after keeping Maritzburg United in the top flight of South African football.
Building up to the tournament, Tinkler has hinted at using some of his new players in Phumlani Ntshangase from Bidvest Wits and Kwanda Mngonyama, who re-joined Maritzburg after a stint at Cape Town City. After impressing towards the back end of last season, Judas Moseamedi has also been captured permanently, while Keagan Buchanan will provide fans with the ambience of a new signing following his long lay-off due to injury.
